The nominations for the 2023 Gotham Awards have been announced, recognizing outstanding performances in gender-neutral categories. The live announcement took place at Cipriani Wall Street, the location where the awards ceremony will be held next month. The executive director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, Jeffrey Sharp, and deputy director Kia Brooks revealed the nominees. This year’s Gotham Awards will be held on Monday, November 27 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
Already announced honorees for the event include Ben Affleck, whose film “Air” will receive the Visionary Icon & Creator Tribute, and Bradley Cooper, the star, director, and co-writer of “Maestro,” who will receive the Cultural Icon & Creator Tribute. However, there is speculation that the ongoing actors strike may impact the Gotham Awards. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) are scheduled to resume negotiations on Tuesday. If the strike is not resolved by the awards ceremony, actors like Bradley Cooper may not be able to promote their projects from the affected production companies.
The nominees for the Gotham Awards are carefully selected by committees consisting of film and TV critics, journalists, festival programmers, and film curators. Separate juries, comprised of writers, directors, actors, producers, editors, and other industry professionals, will determine the final award recipients.
In recent years, the Gotham Awards have recognized critically acclaimed films such as Oscar winners “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “CODA,” “Nomadland,” “Marriage Story,” “American Factory,” “Moonlight,” “Spotlight,” and “Birdman.” These prestigious awards have become an important step in the award season and often foreshadow future success at major ceremonies like the Academy Awards.
