General Motors (GM) has announced that deliveries of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV have begun. The company also provided an update on the launch schedule for different grades of the vehicle. The Blazer EV will be offered in LT, RS, and SS grades, along with a Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) variant. Production will start with the RS AWD model, which has a starting price of $60,215 and offers an estimated range of 279 miles. Dealers will receive the first batch of RS AWD vehicles in August. The Blazer EV will be manufactured in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, where the gasoline-powered Blazer is also built.
Following the RS AWD, production of the RS RWD and 2LT AWD models will begin this fall. The RS RWD model is expected to have a range of 320 miles, while both the RS AWD and 2LT AWD models will have a range of 279 miles. In 2024, a front-wheel drive version of the 2LT model will be launched, offering an estimated range of 293 miles per charge.
The 2LT AWD model comes equipped with a range of features, including a 17.7-inch touchscreen, an 11.0-inch digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather upholstery, wireless smartphone charging, heated front seats, and adaptive cruise control. The RS AWD adds additional features such as 21-inch wheels, cooled front seats, rain-sensing wipers, and a rear camera mirror. The RS RWD model includes a Bose audio system.
Furthermore, GM confirmed that the Blazer EV SS, initially planned for a later release in 2023, will now begin production in Spring 2024. This sportier version of the Blazer EV will feature a sport suspension and impressive performance capabilities, with 557 horsepower and 667 lb-ft of torque. It will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 4.0 seconds in a mode called Wide Open Watts. The starting price for the Blazer EV SS is expected to be $65,996.
The Blazer EV PPV is still on track for a first-quarter 2024 launch. GM will announce the timing for the remaining configurations, including the base 1LT model and front-wheel-drive versions of the 2LT and RS, closer to their scheduled releases in 2024.
Last summer, Chevy revealed that the 1LT model would start at $44,995, while the 2LT and RS had base prices of $47,595 and $51,995, respectively. However, the recently announced prices for the AWD and RWD versions are considerably higher. It is likely that these lower prices apply to the front-wheel-drive models, and the prices for other versions may increase when they hit the market. It is worth noting that Chevy charges an additional $1,575 for AWD compared to RWD. Therefore, transitioning to front-wheel drive would not account for the full price difference between last year’s quotes and the current prices. Interestingly, the Blazer EV will be available in front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive configurations, making it the first vehicle in history to offer all three options.
In conclusion, GM has commenced deliveries of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV and has provided details on the launch schedule for different grades of the vehicle. With its range of features and different powertrain options, the Blazer EV aims to cater to a wide range of consumers looking for an electric SUV.
