Nissan has introduced a track-focused Nismo variant of its redesigned 2023 Nissan Z sports car for its second year on the market. The 2024 Nissan Z Nismo was revealed recently and is set to be available for sale in the fall. While pricing details have not yet been announced, the Nismo version of the Z offers a more hardcore performance and includes several visual enhancements both inside and out.
One of the primary upgrades in the Z Nismo is the increased power from its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine. With peak numbers of 420 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, the Z Nismo boasts 20 hp and 34 lb-ft more than the regular Z. Additionally, the Nismo version features improved engine oil cooling, a critical element for extended track sessions.
The Z Nismo is equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission, while the regular Z offers a 6-speed manual option. Nissan claims that the Nismo’s unique software settings and the Sport+ mode ensure faster and more dynamic shifts, eliminating the need for paddle shifters on the track.
Compared to previous generations, the regular Z offers a softer ride, prioritizing comfort on the road over track performance. In response to this, the Z Nismo features upgrades such as new stabilizer bars, larger dampers, and stiffer springs. The car’s overall stiffness and rigidity are improved through additional body reinforcements, allowing for better handling and response to increased cornering forces. Noteworthy modifications in this regard include additional bracing, stiffer suspension bushings, and a stiffer mounting bushing for the steering rack.
The Z Nismo is equipped with 19-inch wheels from Rays, fitted with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT600 tires measuring 285/35 at the rear. These wheels are half an inch wider than the Performance grade wheels on the regular Z, with the front wheels measuring 10.0 inches across and the rear wheels measuring 10.5 inches. Surprisingly, despite their larger size, the Nismo wheels are actually lighter. Additionally, the car’s braking system has been enhanced, with 15.0-inch rotors at the front and 13.8-inch rotors at the rear.
One of the key visual distinctions of the Z Nismo is its unique front-end design, featuring a new fascia and grille treatment called the Grand Nose or G Nose. The car also incorporates chunky side skirts, a distinctive rear fascia, and a larger rear wing. Flics at the front and red accents throughout the exterior distinguish the Nismo model.
Inside, the Z Nismo showcases Recaro bucket seats designed to accommodate harnesses. The digital gauge cluster features a Nismo-specific design, and there is now a red engine start button. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and Alcantara and has a red stripe at the 12 o’clock position.
Overall, the 2024 Nissan Z Nismo offers track enthusiasts a more aggressive and performance-oriented version of the already impressive regular Z sports car. It promises enhanced power, improved handling, and visual upgrades inside and out. With its arrival in the market this fall, automotive enthusiasts eagerly anticipate pricing details and the opportunity to experience the Nismo variant firsthand.
