The iconic supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine, popularly known as the Hellcat, will be bidding farewell after the 2024 model year. The Ram 1500 TRX has been announced as the final recipient of this powerhouse engine. To commemorate the end of an era, Ram has unveiled the 2024 1500 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition.
With a starting price of $119,620, which includes a $1,995 destination charge, this special-edition truck will be limited to just 4,000 units worldwide. However, Ram will continue to offer a regular 1500 TRX with the Hellcat engine for the 2024 model year until production of the engine ceases at the end of this year. Customers can expect the trucks to be available starting in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The 1500 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition offers buyers the option to choose from three additional exclusive colors: Delmonico Red, Night Edge Blue, and Harvest Sunrise. Special touches on this final edition include Satin Titanium bead-lock capable wheels and custom badging, making it a distinctive and collector’s item.
Inside the truck, buyers will find accent stitching, carbon-fiber accents, and a uniquely numbered build plaque, adding a touch of exclusivity. Some of the 1500 TRX’s available features, such as a premium 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a head-up display, and various electronic driver-assist features, will also come as standard in this Final Edition.
The 1500 TRX made its debut in 2021, but the Hellcat engine itself first appeared in the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Starting with 707 horsepower, the engine’s power output has gradually increased over the years, reaching its peak with the astounding 1,025 horsepower (on E85 fuel) in the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. In the 1500 TRX, the engine is rated at 702 horsepower and is paired with a four-wheel-drive system. The combination allows for impressive performance, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.5 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 12.9 seconds at 108 mph, and a top speed of 118 mph.
Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis hints that the TRX story isn’t over yet, sparking intrigue among enthusiasts. While he didn’t provide specific details, there are speculations that future 1500 TRX models may feature Stellantis’ new Hurricane 3.0-liter turbo-6 engine. There’s also the possibility of a hybrid configuration or even a fully electric powertrain, aligning with the industry-wide shift towards sustainable mobility.
Notably, Dodge, another brand under the Stellantis umbrella, has already confirmed the development of an electric vehicle. Set to debut next year, it has been teased with the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT concept. Although the Hellcat engine is reaching the end of its journey, Stellantis has not yet announced the complete abandonment of V-8 engines. The naturally aspirated 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V-8 engines will still be available in certain Dodge models, preserving the iconic rumble that enthusiasts love.
As the curtain drops on the Hellcat era, it’s the end of an era characterized by unadulterated horsepower and exhilarating performance. However, it also marks the dawn of a new chapter for Ram trucks, with the promise of innovative and sustainable powertrain options that will continue to redefine performance in the future. The 2024 1500 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition embodies the legacy of the Hellcat engine and serves as a fitting tribute to the power and excitement it brought to the automotive world.
