Cadillac is set to introduce three electric vehicles this year, in addition to the Lyriq SUV and Celestiq flagship hatchback. A prototype for one of these new vehicles has recently been spotted. The prototype is for a mid-size three-row SUV that is expected to replace the gas-powered XT6. Cadillac has described this vehicle as a “globally sized” offering with a focus on spaciousness and cargo capacity.
While heavily camouflaged, design elements from the Lyriq can be seen in the prototype, including the front fascia lines, vertical headlights, and the beak-like visor on the hood. However, the rear of the vehicle is different due to the need for a third row, with a relatively flat roof compared to the sloping roof of the Lyriq. From certain angles, the prototype resembles a Land Rover Range Rover Sport.
Similar to the Lyriq, the interior design of the mid-size SUV is expected to feature a clean and uncluttered dashboard with a large curved screen that combines a digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. Some shots of the prototype reveal a portion of the screen.
Underneath, the vehicle is likely to be built on General Motors’ Ultium platform and utilize their battery technology. The powertrain options should be similar to the Lyriq, offering a battery capacity of around 100 kWh and the choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. With all-wheel drive, the peak power output could reach approximately 500 horsepower.
Alongside the mid-size SUV, Cadillac plans to reveal two more EVs this year. The first is the Escalade IQ, which is set to debut on August 9th. The second is a compact electric vehicle known as the Optiq, the design of which was previously revealed through a Chinese government website in July.
Production for all three new EVs is expected to start in 2024, with the possibility of arriving as 2025 models. The next Cadillac EV to enter production will be the Celestiq, with the first units slated for production later this year as 2024 models.
Overall, Cadillac’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup is evident with the introduction of three new EVs this year. These vehicles will not only provide consumers with electric options but also showcase Cadillac’s design prowess and commitment to environmental sustainability. With the prototype for the mid-size SUV already generating excitement, the anticipation for Cadillac’s upcoming electric vehicles continues to grow.
