Genesis has unveiled its updated GV80 range, offering a first look at the new coupe-like variant called the GV80 Coupe. The debut of these vehicles took place in South Korea, at the Genesis Suji showroom, where they will be on public display from Oct. 7. While Genesis has not specified the release date, both the updated GV80 and the GV80 Coupe are expected to arrive in U.S. showrooms next year as 2025 models. Additionally, Genesis is working on an SUV larger than the GV80, which may also be released next year.
The GV80 has been a great success for Genesis, with over 170,000 units sold worldwide since it first went on sale in early 2020. Due to its popularity, Genesis has made subtle changes to the mid-size SUV’s styling. The updates include a revised grille, new lights, a new front fascia with larger intakes and a skid plate, and chrome accents throughout the vehicle’s profile. The regular GV80 now features hidden exhaust tips, while the GV80 Coupe has exposed tips. The range also introduces new wheel patterns and colors.
Although Genesis has not revealed the interior, they have stated that the current model’s dash, which has separate screens for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system, has been replaced with a new design featuring a 27-inch display that integrates both systems. The interior has undergone refinements in areas such as the pedals, mobile phone wireless charging pad, cupholders, and shifter. Genesis has also introduced five interior colors and premium materials like leather, aluminum, and real wood.
In terms of powertrain, the GV80 retains its current options without any changes. Customers can choose between a 2.5-liter turbo-4 engine with 300 horsepower or a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine with 375 horsepower. The GV80 Coupe, however, offers a third choice with an electric compressor added to the twin-turbo V-6, resulting in an output of 408 horsepower. The electric compressor, commonly used by Genesis’ German rivals, reduces turbo lag and improves engine response at low revs.
The GV80 Coupe also features several special features aimed at enhancing its sporty nature. These include a sound generator that can replicate the exhaust sound of a large-displacement sports car and a feature called Flex Brake that allows Genesis to adjust the responsiveness of the brake pedal. Buyers who opt for the range-topping powertrain with the electric compressor will enjoy additional features such as Launch Control, a Sports+ drive mode, and a dedicated screen in the instrument cluster that displays oil temperature, torque, and turbo pressure.
Further details about the U.S. market release will be announced at a later date. With the success of the GV80 and the introduction of the GV80 Coupe, Genesis is continuing to expand its SUV lineup. The brand’s commitment to offering stylish and technologically advanced vehicles is evident in the updates made to the GV80 range. Car enthusiasts and luxury SUV buyers can look forward to experiencing these exciting new models when they arrive in showrooms next year.
