The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO, set to replace the popular 1500 TRX, was announced this week, and has already been spotted testing. The prototype, captured on video by Car Spy Media, showcased the familiar pumped fenders and wide rubber of the current TRX. However, the most noticeable difference was the sound of the engine, which was a clear departure from the V-8 roar typically associated with the TRX.
Earlier in the year, Ram made the announcement that the current TRX will be discontinued after the 2024 model year, due to the parent company, Stellantis, pulling the plug on its Hellcat supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine. As a send-off, Ram will release a special 1500 TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition, limited to 4,000 units worldwide.
While the TRX may be exiting the stage, the new RHO will be taking its place with a 6-cylinder engine under the hood. The engine is the HO (High Output) version of Stellantis’ twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 known as the Hurricane, with an impressive output of 540 hp.
The more restrained power of the inline-6 engine in the RHO is a far cry from the TRX’s 702 hp, which gave it the ability to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, reach a quarter-mile time of 12.9 seconds (at 108 mph), and achieve a top speed of 118 mph. While the inline-6 may hurt performance, it is expected to improve fuel economy and possibly positively impact the dynamics of the vehicle due to less weight being carried up front.
In addition to a different engine, the RHO will also come with a lower starting price compared to the TRX. The 2024 TRX had a base sticker price of $97,485, a significant increase from the previous year. In contrast, the RHO is expected to have a more accessible entry price.
A full reveal of the RHO is anticipated early next year, coinciding with the launch of the 2025 Ram 1500 range. This updated line-up will include an electric 1500 REV and a series of plug-in hybrid 1500 Ramchargers. Production will be taking place at Stellantis’ plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan, a reflection of the brand’s commitment to American manufacturing and the continued innovation in the automotive industry.
The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO represents a shifting landscape in the automotive industry as manufacturers adapt to new market demands and technological advancements. With the inclusion of electric and hybrid options, Ram is positioning itself at the forefront of innovation while maintaining the power and performance that its loyal customer base expects. By switching to a more efficient engine while retaining the bold and aggressive design that the TRX was known for, the RHO showcases Ram’s ability to evolve and adapt without compromising on its core values. As the automotive industry continues to push boundaries, the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO serves as a benchmark for the future of performance vehicles.
