Audi’s E-Tron GT is about to receive an exciting facelift, and car enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the changes to come. Recently, a camouflaged prototype of the E-Tron GT was spotted testing in Germany, giving a sneak peek into what can be expected from the updated model.
Developed by Audi Sport, the E-Tron GT is an electric performance sedan closely related to the Porsche Taycan, which is also set to undergo updates. Both models are built on the J1 platform, a bespoke platform tailored to electric performance vehicles.
The Taycan arrived in the U.S. as a 2020 model, while the E-Tron GT hit the market as a 2022 model. As a result, it is expected that the updated Taycan will make its debut earlier, with sales projected to start next year as a 2025 model. Following suit, the refreshed E-Tron GT is likely to come in 2025 as a 2026 model.
The latest spy shots reveal that the E-Tron GT is undergoing significant changes, particularly with new fascias at the front and rear. The front fascia boasts a completely redesigned look, enhancing the visual width of the car. On the other hand, the rear fascia, while resembling the current design, appears to be less busy overall.
In addition to exterior updates, the interior is expected to feature enhancements as well, possibly focusing on the infotainment system. The car is also speculated to adopt Volkswagen Group’s latest matrix LED headlight technology, offering improved brightness and reduced glare for other drivers. This technology made its debut in the 2024 Porsche Cayenne.
While there is no confirmation on potential powertrain changes, a new battery could potentially lead to increased range, power discharge capability, or both. In the 2024 Q8 E-Tron SUV, Audi introduced a new battery offering significantly more range, raising the bar for electric performance vehicles.
In its current form, the E-Tron GT’s performance peaks at the RS E-Tron GT grade, delivering an impressive output of 637 hp with boost mode (597 hp normally). This power translates to a 0-60 mph acceleration in just 3.1 seconds and a governed top speed of around 155 mph. The regular E-Tron GT boasts a peak output of 522 hp with boost mode (496 hp normally). Both models are equipped with a 93.4-kwh battery estimated to offer approximately 249 miles of range by the EPA.
There is speculation that a new performance flagship could be introduced in conjunction with the update, following the footsteps of the expected launch of a new Taycan Turbo GT. This range-topping Taycan model is rumored to deliver around 1,000 hp, setting the stage for a high-performance segment in the electric vehicle market.
In anticipation of the updated E-Tron GT, Audi is gearing up to launch new EVs based on VW Group’s PPE platform. The first of these will be the Q6 E-Tron compact crossover, followed by the A6 E-Tron midsize sedan. Prototypes for both models have also been spotted, highlighting Audi’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup.
As the automotive industry continues to pivot toward electrification, Audi’s updates to the E-Tron GT signify the brand’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of electric performance and innovation. With a host of enhancements in the pipeline, the refreshed E-Tron GT is poised to deliver an exhilarating driving experience while showcasing the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology.
