McMurtry Spéirling Pure: The Electric Track Car Designed to Exceed Expectations
McMurtry, a small British startup, has unleashed the McMurtry Spéirling, an electric track car that outshines many of the world’s most prestigious supercars. Breaking boundaries with its awe-inspiring performance, this exceptional vehicle is now available for purchase. The company plans to produce a limited run of 100 customer cars, named the Spéirling Pure, with a starting price of £820,000 ($1.04 million).
According to a recent press release, pre-production of the Spéirling Pure is scheduled to commence in 2024, with deliveries planned for 2025. While the current focus remains on the U.K. market, availability for U.S. customers has not been ruled out, potentially expanding the reach of this extraordinary track car.
Initially, McMurtry hinted at the possibility of producing a road-going version of the Spéirling along with the track variant. However, the Spéirling Pure seems to maintain its primary emphasis on delivering an exceptional track experience. It incorporates most of the groundbreaking features showcased by the original Spéirling engineering demonstrator, which previously set a record time of 39.08 seconds during the 2022 Goodwood Hill Climb with the help of renowned racing driver Max Chilton.
One of the standout features of the Spéirling Pure is its innovative fan-powered ground-effects system, claimed to be the first of its kind in a commercially available car. By combining the fan system with sealing skirts, the vehicle generates low pressure underneath, creating significant downforce to enhance grip during cornering. McMurtry boasts that this advanced system enables the Spéirling Pure to achieve up to 3G of grip at accessible speeds.
The impressive power output of 1,000 horsepower is directed to the rear wheels, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a blistering 1.4 seconds, as observed in the original Spéirling prototype. Although specific figures for the Spéirling Pure have not been released, the company claims that improvements in gearing have resulted in an increased top speed of 190 mph. Moreover, with a weight of less than 2,200 pounds, the combination of high power and low weight delivers a truly exhilarating driving experience.
The Spéirling Pure maintains the same 60-kWh battery capacity as its predecessor, but notable revisions have been made. This includes the introduction of a new thermal management system, as well as changes to the cells and pack casing, resulting in weight reductions of 3% and 15.5% respectively. Additionally, various components such as the wiring loom, wheels, braking system, pedal box, and power steering unit have been optimized to achieve weight savings.
To ensure the Spéirling Pure surpasses all expectations, McMurtry plans to undertake rigorous testing of a validation prototype throughout the U.K. and Europe later this year. This testing phase will not only refine the vehicle’s performance but is also expected to be accompanied by a campaign to set new records.
The McMurtry Spéirling Pure epitomizes the convergence of cutting-edge technology and automotive engineering excellence. With its unmatched performance capabilities, state-of-the-art ground-effects system, impressive power-to-weight ratio, and continuous commitment to improvement, this track car is set to redefine the boundaries of electric sports cars. For the fortunate few who will be able to acquire one of the limited-run Spéirling Pure models, they will experience a driving sensation like no other, cementing the McMurtry brand as a force to be reckoned with in the automotive industry.
