Terry Price, the defensive ends coach for Texas A&M University, has sadly passed away at the age of 55. The university confirmed this unfortunate news to TMZ Sports on Friday.
Terry Price had been coaching his alma mater since 2012, after successful coaching stints with Ole Miss and Auburn. However, his impact went beyond coaching, as he was also known as a great recruiter who brought several star players to TAMU, including Myles Garrett and Daylon Mack. In fact, Price was ranked as one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation by Rivals.
Prior to his coaching career, Price played on the Texas A&M defense from 1986 to 1989, during which he was part of the infamous “Wrecking Crew.” He played under coaches Jackie Sherrill and R.C. Slocum and was part of the team that captured two Southwest Conference championships between 1985 and 1987. Price also led the defense in tackles during his junior and senior years.
Following his college career, Price was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 10th round of the 1990 NFL Draft. He played two seasons in the NFL with the Bears and Dolphins before deciding to return to school to finish his undergraduate degree in sociology.
Price leaves behind his wife and two sons, Alexander and Devin. Devin, who recently graduated from college last month, is also a standout wide receiver for Texas A&M University. Price’s pride in his sons’ accomplishments was evident in his last tweets, which were dedicated to them.
The loss of Terry Price is deeply felt by the Texas A&M community. As both a former player and a beloved coach, Price made a significant impact on the school’s football program and the lives of the players he mentored. His dedication to his alma mater and his ability to recruit top talent will be greatly missed.
The Texas A&M University Athletics Department released a statement expressing their condolences and honoring Price’s contributions to the Aggie football program. Many current and former players, as well as colleagues in the coaching community, have also taken to social media to pay tribute to Price and share their memories of him.
It is clear that Terry Price’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched through his coaching, mentorship, and recruiting efforts. His commitment to excellence and his love for the game of football will continue to inspire future generations of players and coaches.
Rest in peace, Terry Price. Your impact on Texas A&M and the football community will never be forgotten.
