With the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event just around the corner, leaks and rumors about the next versions of the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold have started to emerge. These leaks provide us with a fairly comprehensive idea of what to expect from these highly anticipated devices.
One leak from Revegnus on July 25th showcased a photo of what appeared to be the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in a blocky, black case. Although the case concealed much of the design, the leaked image aligned with previous renders. It revealed a 3.4-inch 720 x 748 cover screen, which had been predicted in earlier reports. Additionally, the image highlighted side-by-side camera lenses, indicating a potential update to the camera design.
A significant improvement expected in the upcoming devices is the use of a droplet-style fold, similar to competitors like the Oppo Find N2. This fold style aims to reduce the visible crease, a common issue experienced by previous folding phones.
Prolific leaker SnoopyTech also contributed to the leaks by initiating a scavenger hunt that lead to sets of leaked renders for both the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in various colors. In a clever twist, SnoopyTech used a binary-coded tweet as the first clue, which eventually led to the renders and specifications. The leaked spec sheet revealed color options such as Cream, Graphite, Mint, and Lavender for the Z Flip 5, and Icy Blue, Cream, and Phantom Black for the Z Fold 5.
Apart from new color options and design tweaks, the leaks suggest that both phones will feature upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPUs and thinner chassis. This information partially confirms an earlier rumor about the Z Fold 5’s reduced depth. According to SnoopyTech’s leaked specs, the Z Fold 5 will slim down from 14.2mm (the thinnest point of the folded Galaxy Z Fold 4) to 13.4mm. Similarly, the Z Flip 5 is expected to be thinner, coming in at 15.1mm when folded compared to the Z Flip 4’s 15.9mm at its thinnest point. Furthermore, the Z Fold 5 may shed some weight, losing 10 grams compared to its predecessor. The leaked renders also suggest that the Fold 5’s camera array might feature a 12MP telephoto lens, while previous leaks suggested a 10MP telephoto lens.
However, it is worth noting that the leaks do not mention the existence of 128GB or 1TB models for either phone. While this does not completely rule out the possibility of these storage options, we will have to wait until the official unveiling to confirm. Other specifications, such as battery life, Wi-Fi connectivity, and RAM, seem to be largely unchanged based on the leaked information.
As we eagerly anticipate the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, these leaks provide a tantalizing glimpse of what is to come. With revamped designs, improved internals, and a variety of color options, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 are poised to make a significant impact in the folding phone market.
