Production has begun in Australia on the animated adaptation of the popular preschool picture book franchise, “Pout-Pout Fish.” The movie, titled “Pout-Pout Fish: The Movie,” is a collaboration between MIMO Studios, Like a Photon Creative, and Macmillan Publishers. The project was acquired by MIMO Studios in 2020 and is set to become a major franchise.
“Pout-Pout Fish” is a best-selling children’s book series written by Deborah Diesen and illustrated by Dan Hanna. The series follows the adventures of the titular character, a fish with a frowny face and a big heart, as well as his underwater friends. With over 40 titles and 10 million copies sold in print, the franchise has been a favorite among children and parents alike.
The demand for kids and family content has been on the rise, as evidenced by the success of films like “Super Mario Bros.” This makes the partnership between MIMO Studios and Like a Photon Creative even more exciting. MIMO Studios founder and CEO, Zarghami, expressed his thrill and honor to be able to bring “The Pout-Pout Fish” to life, stating that this project aligns perfectly with his vision for the company.
Macmillan Publishers will serve as the executive producer and financier of the project. The book series was originally published by Macmillan in 2008, making this collaboration a homecoming of sorts. Jen Besser, president of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, expressed her excitement to work with the talented teams at Like a Photon and MIMO Studios to bring the beloved franchise to the screen.
“Pout-Pout Fish: The Movie” was part of a larger deal that included the acquisition of the serialized kids podcast, “The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian.” The movie will feature original songs and tackle important themes such as water pollution and standing up for others.
Like a Photon Creative, an Australia-based studio, is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring the beloved Pout-Pout Fish story world to life. The founders, Nadine Bates and Kristen Souvlis, mentioned that the film is a unique and fresh take on underwater living, highlighting concepts of self-acceptance and found-family. They are excited to share this gorgeous story with young audiences worldwide.
In addition to “Pout-Pout Fish: The Movie,” MIMO Studios has recently announced other projects, including the live-action properties “Code Club” and “The Infamous Frankie Lorde.” “Code Club” focuses on relevant coding language, while “The Infamous Frankie Lorde” is a screen adaptation of Brittany Geragotelis’ book series.
The production of “Pout-Pout Fish: The Movie” marks an exciting milestone for MIMO Studios, Like a Photon Creative, and Macmillan Publishers. With its beloved characters and important themes, the movie is poised to captivate audiences of all ages.
