British chemical giant Ineos has developed the rugged Grenadier SUV, which is set to be released in the U.S. later this year. Building on the success of the SUV, Ineos has now introduced a new body style for the Grenadier – the crew cab pickup truck. The pickup truck, called the Grenadier Quartermaster, made its debut at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K., where Ineos also showcased a Grenadier technology demonstrator equipped with a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain.
The Grenadier Quartermaster pickup truck shares a bespoke body-on-frame platform with the SUV, but has a longer wheelbase of 127 inches compared to the SUV’s 115 inches. The rear bed of the pickup measures a little over 60 inches in length and has a maximum payload rating of 1,675 pounds. Similar to the SUV, the pickup has a maximum tow rating of 7,700 pounds.
Along with the extended dimensions, the Grenadier Quartermaster offers impressive off-road capabilities. It boasts 10.4 inches of ground clearance, 31.5 inches of wading depth, and approach, breakover, and departure angles that Ineos claims are unrivaled in the production pickup segment. The pickup features Carraro-supplied solid beam axles at both ends, further enhancing its off-road performance.
Under the hood, buyers can choose between diesel or gasoline engines, both of which are BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbo-6 units. Additionally, the Grenadier Quartermaster is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system with a 2-speed transfer case. For enhanced off-road capability, front and rear differential locks are also available.
In the U.K., the Grenadier Quartermaster is already available for order, with prices starting at 66,215 British pounds (approximately $86,550). However, Ineos has not yet confirmed whether the pickup will also be sold in the U.S. There is some uncertainty surrounding its U.S. release due to the Chicken Tax, which imposes a 25% tariff on foreign-made light trucks. Nevertheless, the Grenadier SUV is confirmed to hit the U.S. market with a starting price of $71,500.
Production of the Grenadier takes place at a former Mercedes-Benz plant in Hambach, France. This facility has been transformed to accommodate the manufacturing needs of the Grenadier and demonstrates Ineos’ commitment to building the vehicle to high standards.
Looking to the future, Ineos is also working on an electric off-roader that is believed to be smaller than the Grenadier. Set for release in 2026, this electric offering aims to tap into the growing demand for environmentally friendly vehicles without compromising on off-road performance.
In summary, Ineos has expanded its Grenadier lineup with the introduction of the Grenadier Quartermaster pickup truck. Built on a shared platform with the SUV, the pickup offers extended dimensions and enhanced off-road capabilities. With a choice of diesel or gasoline engines, impressive towing and payload capacities, and a rugged design, the Quartermaster aims to cater to the needs of adventurous individuals. Although its availability in the U.S. market remains uncertain, Ineos’ commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility is evident through its development of a hydrogen fuel-cell Grenadier and plans for an electric off-roader in the future.
