GMC has announced some exciting updates and changes for its 2024 Hummer EV Pickup and SUV models. One of the most significant updates is the introduction of a new battery option, which offers increased range for both vehicles.
In terms of the Hummer EV Pickup, the Edition 1 grade is no longer available, leaving only the 3X grade as the sole option. The standard powertrain for the Pickup consists of a three-motor setup, with one motor at the front and two at the rear, delivering an impressive 1,000 horsepower.
Now, customers have two battery options to choose from. The new standard option is a 20-module unit, while the previously standard 24-module battery is still available. Although GMC hasn’t provided range estimates for the 20-module battery, they have stated that the 24-module unit will provide an estimated range of 381 miles. This is a significant increase from the previous year’s range of 355 miles, although GMC has not disclosed how this increase was achieved.
GMC has also specified that the range estimate is based on the standard 22-inch wheels and 35-inch All-Terrain tires. However, if customers opt for the Extreme Off-Road Package, which includes 18-inch wheels with 35-inch Mud-Terrain tires, the range estimate for the 24-module battery drops slightly to 359 miles. This is still an improvement from the previous year’s range of 329 miles with the same package.
It’s important to note that the Hummer EV Pickup doesn’t require EPA testing due to its weight, but GMC’s range estimates are calculated using the same test cycle as the EPA.
Aside from range and battery options, the Hummer EV Pickup comes loaded with standard features. These include rear-wheel steering with the CrabWalk diagonal drive capability, adaptive air suspension, and Super Cruise automated driver-assist, which now covers over 400,000 miles of roads across the U.S. and Canada.
When it comes to performance, the 24-module battery offers maximum acceleration. GMC claims a 0-60 mph time of three seconds using the Watts to Freedom launch control. Opting for the 20-module battery still delivers impressive performance, with a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds.
In terms of towing capacity, the Hummer EV Pickup can handle a maximum of 8,500 pounds. However, with the Extreme Off-Road Package, the towing capacity decreases slightly to 7,500 pounds. The package adds Mud-Terrain tires, four additional underbody camera views (for a total of 18 camera views), heavy-duty ball-spline half-shafts, and various underbody protection features, including skid plates, battery and motor shields, and rocker protection.
As for pricing, the 2024 Hummer EV Pickup starts at $106,945, while the 2024 Hummer EV SUV starts at $100,395. Both prices include destination charges.
Despite the steep price tags, the vehicles have been met with high demand. GMC has received over 90,000 reservations for the Pickup and SUV combined. Due to this overwhelming demand, GMC has temporarily stopped accepting new reservations to focus on fulfilling orders from customers who have already converted their reservations into orders. There is no indication as to when the reservation process will resume.
Overall, the 2024 Hummer EV Pickup and SUV models offer exciting improvements, particularly in terms of battery options and increased range. With their powerful performance, advanced features, and off-road capabilities, these vehicles are poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market.
