A new generation of the signature Mini Cooper hatch is set to make its debut later this year as a 2025 model. Mini has already given us a glimpse of the exterior design in April, and now they have released a teaser video showcasing the simplified interior that will be featured in the car.
The teaser video, posted by Mini on Twitter, shows the dash of the original Alec Issigonis-designed Mini transforming into the dash of the new 2025 model. Interestingly, the new Cooper will retain a large circular screen in the middle of the dash, but it will be flanked on either side by panels with soft-touch materials. This design will be common across the Mini range, so we can expect to see it in the redesigned 2025 Countryman and the new 2025 Aceman as well.
The new Cooper will be launched in electric guise, with production of the electric version handled by Great Wall Motors in China. This is part of an agreement made between Mini and Great Wall Motors in 2018. On the other hand, the production of the gas version will remain in Mini’s current home in Oxford, U.K.
The electric version of the Cooper will be initially offered in two grades: Cooper E and Cooper SE. The Cooper E will come with a 40.7-kWh battery and a single electric motor that generates 181 horsepower, while the Cooper SE will feature a 54.2-kWh battery and a single electric motor that delivers 215 horsepower. There are also rumors of an electric John Cooper Works performance range-topper, but no official confirmation has been made.
As for the gas version, no specific details have been released yet. However, it is expected that the current generation’s powertrain options, including the 1.5-liter turbo-3 and 2.0-liter turbo-4 engines, will carry over to the new Cooper. It is possible that these engines will receive slight improvements in terms of performance and fuel economy.
It’s worth noting that Mini’s decision to prioritize electrification aligns with the broader industry trend towards electric vehicles (EVs) and cleaner mobility. Governments around the world are implementing stricter emissions regulations, and many automakers, including Mini’s parent company BMW, have committed to transitioning to fully electric lineups in the future. By launching an electric version of the Cooper, Mini is taking a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
In terms of design, the new Cooper retains the iconic Mini look that has made it so popular over the years. The exterior design revealed in April showcased a modern take on the classic Mini shape, with updated headlights and a more streamlined profile. The new interior design, as shown in the teaser video, combines a mix of retro and contemporary elements, creating a unique and stylish cabin space.
Overall, the upcoming 2025 Mini Cooper represents a significant evolution for the iconic hatchback. With its electrified powertrain options and refreshed interior design, the new Cooper offers a glimpse into Mini’s future as they embrace the shift towards electric mobility. Whether you prefer the electric version or the gas-powered variant, the new Mini Cooper promises to deliver the fun and excitement that the brand is known for, while also embracing a more sustainable and environmentally conscious approach to transportation.
