and free with them. It was a beautiful way for her character arc to come full circle. And I love that James didn’t force a romance between Gamora 2.0 and Peter. It wouldn’t have felt authentic or true to their characters. They had gone through so much together, and their relationship had evolved beyond romantic entanglement. It was a mutual respect and understanding that they needed to go their separate ways.
But going back to your point about working with creators who build entire worlds, it’s definitely a pattern that I’ve noticed and feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of. These creators have a unique ability to transport audiences into these immersive and rich universes that captivate and inspire. They take storytelling to another level and create these intricate and compelling narratives that keep audiences hooked.
From working with James Cameron on Avatar, where we were transported to the dazzling world of Pandora, to collaborating with J.J. Abrams on Star Trek, where we explored the vastness of space and encountered fascinating alien civilizations, to joining the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, which has its own unique and vibrant cosmic universe, and now working with Taylor Sheridan on Lioness, which delves into the clandestine world of intelligence operations, I’ve been fortunate to be a part of these incredible journeys.
And it’s not just about the world-building, but also the characters that inhabit these worlds. These creators have a knack for crafting complex and multidimensional characters that audiences can connect with and root for. They bring a depth and authenticity to their storytelling that truly resonates.
I think what draws me to these projects is the opportunity to explore different genres, themes, and perspectives. I believe that storytelling has the power to challenge and provoke, to entertain and educate. And I want to be a part of narratives that push boundaries and shed light on important issues.
For example, in Lioness, we delve into the world of espionage and the grey areas of intelligence operations. It’s a world where the lines between right and wrong blur, and the choices these operatives make can have life-and-death consequences. It’s a fascinating and thought-provoking exploration of the sacrifices and moral dilemmas these individuals face in the pursuit of their mission.
I’m also drawn to projects that highlight strong, complex female characters. It’s empowering to play women who are not defined by traditional stereotypes but are instead resilient, resourceful, and capable. They shatter glass ceilings and defy expectations, and I hope that by portraying these characters, I can inspire and empower others.
So, while I am grateful for the opportunities to work with these visionary creators and be a part of their world-building, it’s ultimately the stories and characters that resonate with me. It’s about finding projects that challenge and excite me as an artist, and that I believe in with all my heart.
In the end, it’s a collaboration between the creators, the storytellers, and the audience. We all come together to create these immersive and transformative experiences. And I am humbled and honored to be a part of that process, to bring these characters to life, and to share their journeys with the world.
