Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen continued his dominant streak at the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix, securing his seventh consecutive win of the 2023 F1 season. With a total of nine wins this season, Verstappen is on track to capture his third championship title. McLaren’s Lando Norris finished second, trailing Verstappen by 33 seconds, followed by Red Bull’s Sergio Perez in third, 37 seconds behind Verstappen.
The race began with Verstappen positioned on the front row, while pole position was taken by Mercedes-Benz AMG’s Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen had a better start and quickly created a significant lead, unchallenged for the remainder of the race.
Hamilton, on the other hand, faced setbacks as he fell behind McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and later Norris. The positions remained relatively stable until the first round of pit stops, during which Hamilton was the first among the leaders to make a stop.
Verstappen chose to stay out longer and maintained his lead after eventually making his pit stop. Norris, with a quick pit stop, emerged ahead of Piastri. Perez, starting from the ninth position after a poor qualifying performance, demonstrated impressive driving skills by overtaking Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Mercedes’ George Russell to reach fifth place.
Perez continued his charge and eventually secured third place by the end of the race, as his lap times proved quicker than those of Hamilton and Piastri. Hamilton also managed to pass Piastri in the closing laps with the aid of the DRS (Drag Reduction System).
Following the Hungarian Grand Prix, Verstappen currently leads the 2023 Drivers’ Championship with a comfortable 281 points. Perez sits in second place with 171 points, while Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin holds third place with 139 points. In the Constructors’ Championship, Red Bull leads with 452 points, followed by Mercedes with 223 points and Aston Martin with 184 points.
Next on the F1 calendar is the Belgian Grand Prix, scheduled for the upcoming weekend.
