Toyota is bringing back its iconic Land Cruiser, and the highly anticipated new model is set to make its U.S. debut on August 1st at 9:20 pm ET. Toyota’s announcement of the Land Cruiser’s return came with a teaser image that has sparked excitement among fans.
The latest teaser image, along with a previous one released in July, gives us a glimpse of the new Land Cruiser’s design. The vehicle features a brick-like shape with a retro flair. The front end is squared off, showcasing horizontal headlights and the Toyota logo spelled out on the eggcrate grille. This design pays homage to the 1980s 60-series Land Cruisers, which had quad square headlights and vertically mounted rectangular taillights.
Interestingly, the Land Cruiser will share its platform and overall proportions with the 2024 Lexus GX. The Lexus GX is equipped with a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine that produces 349 horsepower and 478 lb-ft of torque. Power is distributed to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission and a 2-speed transfer case. The full-time four-wheel-drive system ensures excellent off-road capabilities. Additionally, the off-road-oriented Overtrail model includes a locking rear differential and Toyota’s Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS), which allows for more suspension travel by hydraulically linking the front and rear stabilizer bars. It is highly likely that the Land Cruiser will offer similar features, although it may differentiate itself by adopting the turbo-4 hybrid powertrain from the 2024 Toyota Tacoma pickup.
As for the platform, the new Land Cruiser will be built on Toyota’s TNGA-F body-on-frame platform. This platform is also used in the 300-Series Land Cruiser (which is not available in the U.S.), the Lexus LX and GX SUVs, the Toyota Tundra pickup, and the Sequoia SUV. Moreover, the next-generation 4Runner will also share this platform when it debuts.
The Land Cruiser has a rich heritage and is known for its exceptional off-road performance, durability, and reliability. Over the years, it has become an iconic SUV and has gained a dedicated fan base. Enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the new model and are excited to see how Toyota has evolved this legendary vehicle to meet the demands of modern times while still staying true to its roots.
Toyota has always prioritized safety, and the new Land Cruiser is expected to be packed with advanced safety features. Previous Land Cruiser models have offered features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. It is speculated that the new Land Cruiser will continue this trend of prioritizing safety and will include even more advanced driver-assistance technologies.
In terms of interior design and features, not much has been revealed yet. However, Toyota is known for its comfortable and well-equipped interiors, and it is safe to assume that the new Land Cruiser will continue this tradition. From premium materials to the latest infotainment and connectivity options, the Land Cruiser will likely offer a luxurious and technologically advanced cabin.
The Land Cruiser has always held a special place in Toyota’s lineup, and its return to the U.S. market is highly anticipated. With its rugged yet stylish design, powerful performance, and advanced features, the new Land Cruiser aims to reclaim its status as an unrivaled SUV in its segment. As August 1st approaches, fans eagerly await the moment when the curtain will finally be lifted, and the new Land Cruiser will make its grand debut in the U.S. automotive market.
