In a shocking turn of events, Roscoe Danielson, a 40-year-old resident of East Elmhurst, New York, has been arraigned on an indictment charging him with two counts of murder and concealment of a human corpse. The charges stem from the shooting death of his younger brother, Kyle Danielson, whose body was found wrapped in bedding and placed in a black plastic garbage bag on an East Elmhurst street, as well as the stabbing death of his mother, Cheryl Myrick, whose body was discovered inside their family home.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “This defendant is accused of the most gruesome of crimes, taking the life of his own mother and brother and leaving his sibling’s body on the sidewalk. We will hold him fully accountable and seek justice for the victims.” The charges against Roscoe Danielson include two counts of murder in the second degree, three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, and six counts of tampering with physical evidence, among others. If convicted, Danielson could face up to 50 years to life in prison.
According to the details presented in the indictment, on the morning of July 5, surveillance footage captured Roscoe Danielson pushing a grocery cart containing what appeared to be a bleach container on 104th Street. He was then witnessed dragging a large object, wrapped in a comforter and bed sheets, down the sidewalk and leaving it in front of a residential building. After completing this disturbing act, he returned to his own home on the same block.
Later that day, passersby called 911 to report a strong odor emanating from the comforter and what appeared to be blood seeping out of it. Responding officers discovered the lifeless body of Kyle Danielson wrapped in the bedding. He had suffered a gunshot wound to his torso, as well as lacerations to his throat and body.
In another chilling twist, on the evening of July 5, police officers observed Roscoe Danielson pushing a 3-year-old child in a stroller while a black bag hung from the stroller handle. Suspecting foul play, a search warrant was obtained, leading to the recovery of a loaded 9mm handgun and a knife from the bag.
Further investigation led authorities to execute a search warrant at Danielson’s residence. In the early hours of July 6, they discovered the lifeless body of Cheryl Myrick, Roscoe’s mother. She had suffered stab wounds to her neck. The discovery of her body served as the final piece of evidence against Danielson, strengthening the case against him.
The arraignment proceedings took place, and Justice Kenneth Holder ordered Roscoe Danielson to return to court on September 13 for further proceedings. As the legal process unfolds, the family and friends of Cheryl Myrick and Kyle Danielson are left to grapple with the profound loss of their loved ones.
The events surrounding this case send shockwaves through the community as residents are forced to confront the stark reality of domestic violence and familial betrayal. It serves as a poignant reminder that no one is immune to the effects of such heinous acts, even within the confines of their own homes.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, it is crucial to address the larger societal issues that contribute to acts of violence within families. Resources and support must be made readily available to aid those facing domestic conflicts and to provide preventative measures against such unimaginable crimes. Additionally, it is imperative to educate the public about recognizing the signs of domestic violence and the steps to take in intervening to protect potential victims.
As the legal proceedings continue, the Queens District Attorney’s Office is committed to seeking justice for Cheryl Myrick and Kyle Danielson. The victims’ lives and tragic deaths must not be forgotten. The courtroom will serve as a platform to hold Roscoe Danielson accountable for his alleged crimes and to provide closure and a sense of justice to those affected.
Coming to terms with such horrific acts is a painstaking process, and the community must come together to support one another during this time of immense grief. Through collective efforts and a commitment to advocating for victims of domestic violence, we can strive for a safer future where no family is torn apart by senseless violence.
