Russell Chew, president and CEO of SU2C, echoed Couric’s sentiments, stating, “Our telecast is a powerful tribute that demonstrates the importance of standing together to save lives. Everyone plays a critical role in this goal, and we are so grateful for the support of the entertainment community, the broadcast networks, our generous donors, and the incredible researchers who work tirelessly to develop new cancer treatments.”
Stand Up to Cancer was established in 2008 by a group of women who aimed to mobilize the entertainment community in raising awareness and funding for collaborative cancer research. The founders, including Katie Couric, Sherry Lansing, Kathleen Lobb, Lisa Paulsen, Rusty Robertson, Sue Schwartz, Pamela Oas Williams, Ellen Ziffren, and the late Laura Ziskin and Noreen Fraser, envisioned bringing together the best scientists from leading institutions to accelerate progress in ending cancer’s reign as a leading cause of death worldwide. Since its inception, SU2C has raised over $746 million, with the funds going towards supporting more than 3,000 scientists from over 210 institutions in their collaborative efforts.
The upcoming fundraising special not only serves as an opportunity to raise awareness and funds but also celebrates the achievements and advancements made in cancer research over the past 15 years. It highlights the importance of collaboration, unity, and the tireless efforts of researchers and scientists around the world. With the support of the entertainment community, broadcast networks, donors, and individuals, Stand Up to Cancer aims to continue making strides towards finding a cure for cancer and ensuring that every cancer patient becomes a long-term survivor.
The show will undoubtedly be a powerful and inspiring event, reminding viewers of the impact they can make in the fight against cancer. By standing together and supporting organizations like Stand Up to Cancer, individuals can contribute to the ongoing mission of improving cancer treatments and ultimately making a difference in the lives of countless patients and their loved ones.
