The revival of the beloved animated series, Futurama, made a significant impact on the streaming charts during the final week of July. Despite its decline in popularity, Suits maintained its position as the overall number one show, a title it has held since late June.
Futurama’s return to Hulu, along with its entire catalog, resulted in 506 million minutes of viewing time during the week of July 24-30. This impressive performance tied it for the third-place spot among original series with Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer. However, Sweet Magnolias, the top original series for the second consecutive week, outshined the competition with a staggering 1.42 billion minutes of viewing compared to its previous week’s 1.22 billion minutes.
Suits continued to dominate the streaming landscape with 3.6 billion minutes of watch time, securing its position as the top overall title for the sixth consecutive week. Since its debut on the charts in late June, the series has amassed a total of 20.31 billion minutes of viewing time on platforms like Netflix and Peacock. This performance ranks as the second-highest total for a six-week period in Nielsen’s history of tracking streaming viewing. Suits sits just ahead of Wednesday, which accumulated 20.26 billion minutes, and behind the record-breaking Stranger Things, which earned an impressive 27.75 billion minutes from late May to early July in 2022. It’s important to note that Suits has a significantly longer episode runtime compared to the other two shows, and Nielsen includes viewing time across all episodes.
The Witcher experienced a significant boost in viewership following the release of its final three episodes of season three. The fantasy series accumulated 868 million minutes of viewing time, an 80 percent increase from the previous week’s 480 million minutes. Amazon’s Prime Video had three shows in the top 10 originals, with Jack Ryan earning 505 million minutes, Good Omens with 445 million minutes, and The Summer I Turned Pretty with 396 million minutes. Netflix’s They Cloned Tyrone claimed the number one spot in the movie category, accumulating 664 million minutes of watch time, a 42 percent boost from its opening week.
Notably, Nielsen’s streaming ratings only include viewing on TV sets and do not account for minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. Additionally, the ratings solely measure U.S. audiences and do not incorporate viewership data from other countries.
