Starting this week, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will be offering an elevated culinary experience to its First and Business Class guests on its long-haul services from Switzerland. This new offering is part of the company’s ‘SWISS Taste of Switzerland’ inflight foodservice program, which aims to showcase the finest cuisine from different regions of the country. The latest chapter of this program features culinary delights from Canton Geneva, created by Olivier Jean, the executive chef at the luxury The Woodward hotel.
The Woodward hotel, Geneva’s newest five-star hotel, has gained recognition for its exceptional dining experience at the L’Atelier Robuchon restaurant. Olivier Jean, the hotel’s executive chef, is responsible for crafting the select and original creations that will be served to SWISS’s premium passengers over the next three months. With a fusion of French haute cuisine, Asian influences, and local specialities, the meals are a symphony of flavors that have earned the restaurant a Michelin star and 15 GaultMillau points.
“We are delighted to offer our inflight guests the sophisticated creations of L’Atelier Robuchon at the five-star The Woodward hotel,” says SWISS’s Head of Brand Experience Julia Hillenbrand. “In Olivier Jean, we have secured the services of one of the best culinary ambassadors of Canton Geneva. And as The Airline of Switzerland, we are particularly pleased to welcome the ‘Romandie’ back aboard.”
Business Class travellers can anticipate a delectable poached char with lemongrass sauce, sesame sushi rice, sugar snap peas, and roasted squash. First Class guests, on the other hand, will be treated to a mouthwatering miso-marinated pike-perch with port wine sauce, baked polenta, shallot confit, and pak choi. These dishes exemplify the chef’s expertise in creating a harmonious blend of flavors and textures.
But the culinary journey doesn’t end there. SWISS Premium Economy customers will also have the opportunity to indulge in a three-course meal featuring specialities from the Geneva region. One of the standout main courses is the Geneva-style chicken with spätzli and green beans, a dish that pays homage to the regional cuisine and highlights the unique flavors of Geneva.
This latest addition to the ‘SWISS Taste of Switzerland’ program marks over 20 years of gourmet dining aloft. Since December 2002, SWISS has been showcasing the culinary wonders of Switzerland through its inflight meals. Every three months, a new Michelin-starred and GaultMillau-point top chef is invited to create a diverse selection of top-quality dishes from their ‘home’ canton, with a focus on regional and seasonal specialities. The meals are thoughtfully paired with wines and cheeses from the respective regions, providing passengers with an authentic and immersive Swiss gastronomic experience.
So far, the program has welcomed 81 guest chefs representing each of Switzerland’s 26 cantons. Each chef brings their unique culinary perspective and expertise to the menu, enabling passengers to embark on a culinary journey that traverses the diverse flavors and traditions of Switzerland. This dedication to showcasing the country’s culinary heritage has made ‘SWISS Taste of Switzerland’ a beloved and highly anticipated aspect of the inflight experience.
In addition to the delectable meals, SWISS is committed to providing a comprehensive and luxurious travel experience for its premium passengers. From the moment they step onboard, guests are greeted with impeccable service, comfortable seating arrangements, and a range of amenities to enhance their journey. The addition of these gastronomic delights further elevates the overall inflight experience, allowing passengers to relax and savor the flavors of Switzerland while en route to their destination.
SWISS’s partnership with The Woodward hotel and its esteemed executive chef Olivier Jean is a testament to the airline’s dedication to creating memorable and indulgent experiences for its passengers. By showcasing the culinary talents of acclaimed chefs and celebrating the unique flavors of different regions, SWISS continues to set itself apart as a luxury airline that goes above and beyond to provide a truly exceptional travel experience.
Overall, SWISS’s collaboration with The Woodward hotel and its talented chef Olivier Jean brings the flavors of Canton Geneva to new heights. Passengers traveling in First, Business, and Premium Economy Class can look forward to a culinary journey that showcases the best of Swiss gastronomy in the skies. With each dish carefully crafted to delight the senses, SWISS adds an extra layer of luxury and sophistication to the inflight experience. Whether it’s the poached char with lemongrass sauce or the Geneva-style chicken, these culinary delights are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression and make the journey as enjoyable as the destination.
