Porsche has just unveiled the 2024 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid, the latest addition to its plug-in lineup. With this new model, Porsche aims to bridge the gap between the Cayenne E-Hybrid and the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid. The Cayenne S E-Hybrid is set to arrive at dealerships in the spring of next year and will have a starting price of $100,750, including the $1,650 destination charge. For those who prefer the fastback Coupe variant, it will cost $105,650.
Unlike its counterpart, the Cayenne S, which showcases a powerful V-8 engine, the S E-Hybrid model takes a different direction. It replaces the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 with a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine and a 130-kw electric motor. The combined system output of this hybrid model amounts to an impressive 512 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. In comparison, this is 44 hp and 111 lb-ft more than what the V-8-powered S variant offers.
The addition of more power translates to enhanced speed for the Cayenne S E-Hybrid. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds, making it 0.3 seconds quicker than the gas-powered model without the Sport Chrono package. Furthermore, Porsche claims that the S E-Hybrid can complete a quarter-mile run in 13.0 seconds, which is a tenth of a second quicker than the V-8 model.
One notable improvement in the latest Cayenne plug-in models is the increased battery capacity. The S E-Hybrid, along with the other plug-in Cayenne variants, now features a 25.9-kwh battery pack compared to the previous 17.9-kwh pack. Although Porsche has not disclosed specific details regarding the electric driving range, it did mention that the Cayenne S E-Hybrid comes equipped with an 11-kw onboard AC charger that can recharge the battery in approximately 2.5 hours using a 240-volt outlet.
In terms of design, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid closely resembles its non-hybrid counterparts, with only a few distinctive features indicating its hybrid nature. It boasts a set of 20-inch wheels, quad exhausts with brushed stainless-steel tips, and silver or black exterior trim depending on the body style. The interior of the S E-Hybrid offers a range of standard features including eight-way power-adjustable front sport seats, a Sport Chronograph package with a drive mode switch integrated into the steering wheel, stainless-steel pedal pads, and silver-painted trim. Additional options include a front passenger screen and an air purifying system designed to filter out particles and hazardous substances.
For those seeking even more power and performance, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is already available for purchase. It offers a staggering 729 hp, 700 lb-ft of torque, and can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. However, the increased power and performance come at a higher price, with the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid starting at $148,550 for the standard body style and $153,050 for the Coupe variant.
In summary, Porsche continues to expand its plug-in lineup with the introduction of the 2024 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid. This model combines a turbocharged V-6 engine with an electric motor to deliver impressive power and performance. With enhanced speed and a range of standard features, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid offers a compelling option for those seeking a balance between performance and efficiency.
