About two years ago, Honda introduced a small electric car called the Shogo with the goal of reducing stress and anxiety for children staying at the Children’s Hospital Of Orange County in California. The initiative was such a success that Honda has decided to expand the project by building and delivering an additional 60 Shogos to children’s hospitals across the nation.
The name “Shogo” is derived from a Japanese phrase meaning “soaring into the future.” Honda’s commitment to this project shows their dedication to improving the lives of young patients by providing them with a unique and enjoyable mode of transportation.
Already, two new Shogos have been built and delivered to Akron Children’s in Akron, Ohio, and Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana. These electric vehicles are ride-on vehicles that were developed by Honda engineers in-house and manufactured by Honda’s U.S.-based HPD motorsports division, which is soon to become HRC US.
The purpose of these vehicles is to transport young patients to and from procedures and appointments within the hospital. The Shogo is specifically designed for children aged four to nine, ensuring their safety and comfort during their hospital stay. Equipped with a steering wheel that also doubles as a stop and go controller, the Shogo has a top speed of approximately 5 mph.
To make the hospital experience more enjoyable, the Shogo features additional amenities. There is a toy bucket at the front of the vehicle where children can store their favorite toys or belongings, cup holders for drinks, a center horn with different sound options to entertain the children, and a customizable license plate slot on which they can display their names.
Each Shogo comes with its own unique VIN, marked on an aluminum plate hidden away on each chassis. This personal touch adds to the excitement for the young patients, giving them a sense of ownership and individuality during their hospital stay.
Honda’s commitment to building and delivering more Shogos shows their dedication to improving the lives of young patients across the country. By providing these children with a fun and interactive transportation option, Honda aims to reduce their stress and anxiety during their hospital stay.
The success of the Shogo project not only benefits the children but also highlights Honda’s commitment to giving back to the community. As a renowned automotive manufacturer, Honda is utilizing its engineering and manufacturing expertise to create vehicles that make a positive impact on individuals and communities.
The expansion of the Shogo project also provides an opportunity for other children’s hospitals nationwide to benefit from these innovative vehicles. More hospitals will now have access to the Shogo, allowing them to provide a unique and enjoyable experience for their young patients.
In conclusion, Honda’s announcement to build and deliver an additional 60 Shogos to children’s hospitals nationwide demonstrates their commitment to easing the stress and anxiety of young patients during their hospital stay. By providing these children with a fun and interactive mode of transportation, Honda seeks to improve the overall hospital experience and make a positive impact in the lives of these young patients. As more hospitals receive the Shogo, children across the country will have the opportunity to soar into the future with Honda.
