Home Depot has responded to Tyrese Gibson’s $1 million lawsuit, denying his claims of racial discrimination and stating that there is video evidence supporting their side of the story. In new legal documents obtained by TMZ, Home Depot alleges that Tyrese entered their store and brought several items to the cash register, which were scanned by the cashier. However, they claim that Tyrese then left the register for 25 minutes to continue shopping, forcing the cashier to clear out his transaction. This contradicts Tyrese’s original complaint, where he blamed a computer glitch for the delay and claimed that people recognizing him made him feel uncomfortable, prompting him to go to the parking lot instead of overseeing the transaction.
Tyrese had also alleged that he informed the cashier that his two helpers would finish the purchase with his credit card. He stated that the cashier understood his instructions before he left the store and was told that he could wait outside while she completed the transaction. However, Home Depot claims that their surveillance footage does not show Tyrese speaking face-to-face with any cashiers. Additionally, Tyrese claimed that he got on a FaceTime call with a cashier from outside the store and authorized her to complete the transaction, but alleged that she refused to accept his card until he returned to show his ID. Home Depot disputes this, stating that the cashier only asked Tyrese for his ID and insisted that he physically come back into the store to show it. The surveillance footage allegedly shows Tyrese returning to the store and engaging in a heated discussion before eventually showing his ID and completing the transaction.
Tyrese had previously expressed reluctance in suing Home Depot, citing his long history as a customer and likening the store to his Disneyland. However, Home Depot states that they are unaware of how long Tyrese has been a customer or the total amount he has spent with them over the years, although Tyrese claims it amounts to nearly $10 million over a span of two decades.
At this time, Tyrese’s legal team has not responded to requests for comment.
It is important to note that additional information or evidence may emerge as the legal proceedings continue. As of now, the details presented are based on Home Depot’s response to Tyrese’s lawsuit.
