In 2021, the French police have received complaints from the Solidaires Informatique union, which represents workers in the digital, consulting, and video game industries, as well as two individuals. After conducting a thorough investigation that involved extensive interviews with around 50 current and former employees at Ubisoft, the arrests of several individuals were made on October 3rd and 4th.
Out of the five individuals arrested, two have been identified by name. These individuals are Serge Hacosët, the former chief creative officer, and Tommy François, the editorial vice president. Both of them had already left the company in 2020 prior to their arrests.
According to Maude Beckers, the lawyer representing the victims, the case is unique because it goes beyond individual actions and reveals a culture of systemic sexual violence within Ubisoft.
The Verge has reached out to Ubisoft for their response to the allegations, but no official comment has been provided as of yet.
