Toyota is set to unleash a high-performance version of its Supra sports car, and it has recently been spotted being tested at the Nürburgring. The prototype is believed to be a track-focused GRMN grade, which stands for “Gazoo Racing Masters of Nürburgring” and is the range-topping option for road cars developed by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing motorsports division. Similar to offerings from Subaru’s STI and Mercedes-Benz’s AMG divisions, GRMN models boast enhanced performance and handling capabilities.
The first GRMN model was the GRMN 86, which was introduced in 2016. This was followed by the GRMN Yaris a few years later. While these vehicles were unfortunately not available in the U.S., the highly anticipated GRMN Supra is expected to arrive next year as a 2025 model. Car enthusiasts and performance enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting its arrival.
The recently spotted prototype at the Nürburgring features subtle camouflage gear at the front and rear. Notable modifications include new flics on the front fascia, an extended splitter, and a large rear wing. These changes are intended to increase downforce and optimize aerodynamics for enhanced track performance.
In addition to these exterior modifications, the GRMN Supra is likely to undergo chassis enhancements similar to those found in the Supra GT4 customer race car. This may include track-tuned suspension with adjustable dampers and stiffer anti-roll bars, uprated brakes, and performance tires. The prototype is even seen sporting Michelin’s Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, known for their exceptional grip and handling characteristics.

While Toyota has stayed tight-lipped about its plans for a more hardcore Supra, rumors suggest that the GRMN Supra will be equipped with a version of BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine, which is found in the M3 and M4 Competition models. In the base M3 and M4, this engine produces 473 horsepower when paired with a rear-wheel-drive system. It is speculated that Toyota may utilize the same power rating for the range-topping Supra variant, aiming to deliver exhilarating performance that rivals its German competitors.
Currently, the Supra shares its platform and powertrain options with the BMW Z4. The lineup consists of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine and a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine, both sourced from BMW. The more powerful 3.0-liter engine generates 382 horsepower in its most potent form. With the arrival of the GRMN Supra, enthusiasts can expect a significant leap in performance, pushing the boundaries of what the Supra is capable of.
