A Warren resident, Amber Nicole Dunbar, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison on charges of sexual exploitation of children and distribution of child pornography. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Dawn N. Ison, who was joined by Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan.
Dunbar, 27, pleaded guilty in March before United States District Judge George Caram Steeh. As part of her plea, Dunbar admitted that in August 2022, she created images of herself engaging in sexually explicit conduct with an infant and sent them to another individual located in Tennessee. This individual was being investigated for child pornography charges and had caused numerous women to produce and send him child pornography.
As soon as agents in Michigan learned of this abuse, they quickly executed a search warrant and Dunbar admitted to the abuse of the child. Further investigation revealed that Dunbar had also produced child pornography involving a five-year-old child.
“I am thankful for the agents who acted so quickly to save these children from continued abuse. This defendant not only engaged in unthinkable abuse of an infant but also shared the abuse with someone else on the internet. This sentence demonstrates our commitment to ensure that those who harm the most vulnerable in our community will pay a significant price for their actions,” said U.S. Attorney Ison.
Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan, described Dunbar’s exploitation of her daughter and other victims as deplorable. The FBI remains fully committed to investigating criminals who take advantage of minors in this indefensible way and urges the public to report any alleged crimes of child sexual and physical abuse.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Christopher Rawsthorne.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting any suspicions or evidence of child abuse. It is crucial to protect vulnerable children from dangerous predators who seek to harm them. If you suspect or witness any form of child abuse, you can report it by calling 1-800-CALLFBI (1-800-225-5324) or submitting tips online to http://tips.fbi.gov.
Child exploitation and the distribution of child pornography are serious crimes that have devastating impacts on the victims involved. These heinous acts not only violate a child’s innocence but also contribute to a broader network of exploitation and abuse.
Law enforcement agencies are continuously working to investigate and prosecute individuals involved in the production and distribution of child pornography. The aim is to rescue victims from further harm and ensure that those responsible face severe consequences for their actions.
In recent years, there has been an increased focus on combating child exploitation crimes, as well as raising awareness about the signs of abuse and fostering a culture that prioritizes the safety and well-being of children. Education and prevention efforts play a crucial role in identifying potential risks and protecting children from harm.
It is important for parents and caregivers to be vigilant and aware of their children’s online activities, as the internet has become a common platform for predators to groom and exploit victims. Establishing open lines of communication with children, discussing online safety, and monitoring their internet usage can help reduce the risks of becoming victims of online exploitation.
In addition to the efforts of law enforcement agencies, organizations and advocates play a vital role in supporting victims and raising awareness about child exploitation. These organizations provide resources, counseling, and support to those affected by these crimes, as well as educate the public about the prevalence and impact of child exploitation.
While significant progress has been made in the fight against child exploitation, there is still much work to be done. It is crucial for society as a whole to come together and actively participate in the prevention and reporting of child abuse. By promoting awareness, supporting victims, and holding perpetrators accountable, we can create a safer environment for children and ensure their well-being and future.
