Ram is expanding its 1500 pickup lineup with battery-electric and plug-in series-hybrid models. The gas version of the 1500 will receive a redesign for 2025, while the EV models are expected to arrive later in the year. The new gas model will no longer feature the iconic Hemi engine and TRX model.
Replacing the Hemi engine is the Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 engine, which has already been introduced in the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The base version of this engine produces 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque, while the high-output version delivers an impressive 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque, thanks to 28 psi of boost. This high-output version offers significantly more horsepower and torque than the previous 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine it replaces. Additionally, Ram claims the new engine is more efficient. The base engine will continue to be the 3.6-liter V-6 with eTorque, which provides 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, with the electric motor adding an additional 90 lb-ft. All engines will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
In terms of design, the 2025 Ram 1500 will feature a revised exterior that evolves rather than undergoes a complete transformation. The grille will be larger with higher set “RAM” lettering, and LED headlights will come standard. The Limited and higher models will have adaptive headlights with distinct welcome and departure sequences, while the Tungsten model will receive LED fog lights. The popular RamBox system, which provides storage in the bed sidewalls and a 115-volt power outlet, will return. A power tailgate that can be opened via a keyfob will also be available.
The new Ram 1500 will ride on a new fully boxed ladder frame made from 95% high-strength steel, offering enhanced durability and rigidity with a lighter weight. The maximum towing capacity will slightly decrease to 11,580 pounds, while the maximum payload will remain unchanged at 2,300 pounds. The truck will also be capable of fording up to 24 inches of water. The suspension will consist of a double-wishbone front and multi-link rear setup with coil springs. Additionally, a four-corner air suspension with five ride heights and adaptive dampers will be available, as well as several differential options and three axle ratios.
Inside the cabin, the 2025 Ram 1500 will offer more screen space, with options for a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch portrait-style infotainment screen running the Uconnect 5 system. Additionally, a 10.3-inch front passenger screen may be offered on higher-end models. The truck will also feature luxurious amenities such as 24-way power-adjustable front seats with massage, heating, and cooling, a 23-speaker Klipsch audio system with 1,375 watts of power, dual wireless smartphone chargers, and a phone-as-key feature. The Tungsten model will have a diamond theme, and each truck will feature a badge on the center console with an inlaid metal Tungsten logo set in a crystal lens with an embossed VIN. Other notable features include a driver’s footrest and a new electrical architecture with over-the-air update capability.
In terms of safety and driver-assist features, the 2025 Ram 1500 will come equipped with two active driver-assist systems. One system will require the driver’s hands to remain on the steering wheel and will utilize adaptive cruise control and active lane assist. The other system will offer hands-free capabilities, allowing the driver to take their hands off the wheel while keeping their eyes on the road. This system will also be capable of performing lane changes. Ram will also offer trailer hitch lineup assist, a rear camera mirror, and automatic parking.
Ram’s 2025 model lineup will consist of three categories: the core line of work trucks, a line of sport trucks, and a line of luxury trucks. The lineup will include various models such as Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, and Limited. The sport truck lineup will feature Warlock and Rebel models. The new Tungsten model will be the highlight of the luxury truck lineup.
The 2025 Ram 1500 is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2024, while the RHO model is set to arrive in the third quarter, followed by the new Ramcharger in the fourth quarter. Complete pricing, specifications, and features will be announced closer to the launch date. Ram’s expansion into the electric vehicle market with the REV and plug-in series-hybrid models further solidifies their commitment to sustainable transportation.
