Alexandre Chemla, the visionary founder and chief executive officer of ALTOUR, has announced his departure from the company at the end of the year. Internova Travel Group, the parent company of ALTOUR, confirmed the news and expressed gratitude for Chemla’s significant contributions to the travel industry.
“I believe that there are many opportunities for the talented people at ALTOUR, and I am confident that they are all in good hands at Internova Travel Group,” said Chemla. “I am committed to a smooth transition as I move on to the next phase of my career.”
Chemla, a prominent figure in the travel industry, has been at the helm of ALTOUR since he founded the company in 1991. His goal was to establish a travel agency specializing in the corporate and luxury segments. Under his leadership, ALTOUR has grown to become a leader in luxury, corporate, meetings, incentives, and entertainment travel. Chemla’s rich experience in the industry includes serving as a senior executive for Club Med, where he played a pivotal role in developing the transportation hub system and creating the company’s sales and marketing department. Additionally, he has also served as an airline and hotel consultant for renowned travel-related companies such as Hyatt and Disney.
J.D. O’Hara, CEO of Internova Travel Group, lauded Chemla as an entrepreneur and a forward-thinking leader in the travel industry. “He has made an extraordinary and lasting impact on our company and on our industry. ALTOUR is a perfect fit with our Internova family of brands,” O’Hara said. “He and I both believe in the vital importance of a human connection when it comes to working with our supplier partners and serving our clients.”
Beyond his professional endeavors, Chemla is an active participant in several organizations, including the French American Chamber of Commerce, New York Chapter; the French Institute Alliance Française; the French Foreign Trade Advisors; and the French-American Aid for Children organization. His contributions have been recognized with prestigious accolades, including the Ordre National du Merite awarded by the President of France and the French Tourism Office Gold Medal for Tourism, its highest honor.
Educationally, Chemla graduated with honors from Cachan University, outside Paris, with a degree in international business and finance. He resides in New York City with his wife, Lori, and together they are proud parents of three daughters and grandparents. In his leisure time, Chemla indulges in his passion for art collecting, enjoys traveling with his family, and playing tennis.
As the curtain falls on his tenure at ALTOUR, the travel industry will bid farewell to a trailblazer who has left an indelible mark on the sector.
