Christian Klepser, known professionally as Christian Oliver, tragically passed away on January 4, 2024, in a small plane crash off the coast of a Caribbean island. The German-born actor, who starred in films like Speed Racer, Valkyrie, and The Good German, was 51 years old.
The single-engine aircraft, owned and piloted by Robert Sachs, took off from J.F. Mitchell Airport in Bequia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, on Thursday afternoon. The plane was en route to St. Lucia when it experienced difficulties and crashed into the ocean shortly after takeoff. Local fishermen and divers from Paget Farm immediately responded to the scene to provide assistance.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. The last communication from the plane indicated that the pilot was experiencing trouble and turning back to the airport. The bodies of all four passengers, including Christian’s two young daughters, have been recovered.
Throughout his career, Christian Oliver worked with renowned directors such as Steven Soderbergh, Brian Singer, and the Wachowskis. He also starred in the popular German action series Alarm for Cobra 11 (RTL) for two years and had a role in Saved By the Bell: The New Class. His most recent work includes the latest Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
On December 20, 2023, Christian Oliver wrapped up filming for his final movie, Forever Hold Your Peace, directed by Nick Lyon. Lyon shared a photo on social media from the last day of filming and paid tribute to Christian, calling him a “great colleague, actor, and friend.”
