W Hotels, a part of Marriott Bonvoy’s extensive collection of brands, is excited to announce the grand opening of W Sydney. Situated in a striking curved structure that overlooks Darling Harbour, W Sydney is set to become a coveted destination for both travelers and locals. This luxurious hotel will bring a fresh and modern approach to the city’s waterfront, infusing it with new energy.
“W Sydney marks the triumphant return of our W Hotels brand to Sydney, adding to our already robust portfolio in Australia with recent openings in Melbourne and Brisbane,” said George Fleck, Vice President and Global Brand Leader of W Hotels. “W Sydney will be a cultural and social hub in the vibrant Darling Harbour precinct. With our bold ‘Whatever/Whenever’ service ethos, dynamic design, and immersive programming, we are celebrating Sydney through a new lens.”
The design of W Sydney, located within The Ribbon, is a visual masterpiece created by renowned Australian architectural firm Hassell. The hotel’s interiors, masterminded by London-based Bowler James Brindley, draw inspiration from the city’s history, spirit, and folklore. The marine-inspired rooms and suites, along with the distinctive restaurants and bars, pay homage to the authenticity of Sydney.
Upon entering W Sydney, guests are immediately embraced by its design-led journey. The copper-clad entry is a nod to the city’s subterranean tunnels, while the illuminated vertical promenade leads visitors to the Living Room, a vibrant blue space that redefines the traditional lobby by transforming it into a social hub. With a theme of ‘Future Noir,’ the Living Room features an electric blue circular bar and nest-like seating inspired by the Australian Bowerbird. The 588 guestrooms, including 162 suites, reflect the hotel’s harborside location, exuding a chic maritime aesthetic with white and navy-blue palettes and undulating walls reminiscent of yacht sails. The bathrooms showcase deep oceanic blues, and the walk-in wardrobes add a playful touch with bursts of graphic red and pink Waratah flowers.
W Sydney doesn’t just offer luxurious accommodations; it also boasts four new dining and bar venues spread across three levels to electrify the city’s culinary and nightlife scenes. BTWN, located adjacent to a flyover, draws inspiration from urban surroundings and incorporates night food market iconography into its spaces. BTWN’s Head Chef Chris Dodd, a former member of Aria and Blue Door, showcases the finest produce from New South Wales. The hotel’s Living Room offers a menu that celebrates its location on the edge of Asiatown, with a focus on Sake, Soju, and Asian small bites. 29/30, a two-level bar with breathtaking harbor views, is the perfect place to celebrate all that Sydney has to offer. The WET Deck, located at the apex of Darling Harbour, features coral-inspired lighting and offers a casual atmosphere ideal for enjoying tapas and cocktails. Level 30 takes the experience up a notch with elevated cocktails, a selection of vintage Champagnes, and superyacht-inspired decor.
For those in need of relaxation, AWAY Spa provides an oasis of calm. The spa’s concrete design and five treatment rooms feature the meditative and geometric art of Bradley Eastman, also known as Beastman. Additionally, the spa offers circular pods for beauty treatments and a bar for socializing. The hotel’s FIT Gym is equipped with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, while the WET Deck offers a 30-meter open-air infinity pool that showcases a stunning jellyfish mosaic motif.
While W Sydney promises to be a playground for locals and visitors alike, it also caters to business needs. Situated just steps away from Sydney’s International Convention Centre, the hotel offers 1300 square meters of exceptional event space spread across eight versatile rooms. The Great Room on level five boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that provide breathtaking city views. The design of the room pays tribute to Sydney’s famous fireworks with its light fixtures and graphic carpet, connecting seamlessly with the vibrant Darling Harbour setting.
“Craig Seaward, General Manager of W Sydney, expressed his excitement for the hotel’s opening, saying, “W Sydney reimagines luxury for a new era, creating a vibrant new scene for Sydneysiders and visitors to the city. It’s a complete departure from the city’s traditional hotels, and this unique W spirit is something you feel at every touchpoint, from our eclectic venues to the cool blue rooms and high energy programming. I can’t think of a better location for our new W hotel than Sydney’s amazing harbor. We can’t wait to welcome guests again and again.”
With its bold design, immersive programming, and exceptional amenities, W Sydney is set to redefine luxury in the heart of Darling Harbour. Whether you’re seeking a stylish getaway or an unforgettable event experience, W Sydney offers an unparalleled destination in the world’s most iconic city.
