His publicist Nicki Fioravante confirmed the news and stated that the actor passed away four days before his birthday. Although the details of his death are unknown, it was reported that he was hospitalized on the island of Ischia while shooting for his upcoming film, Cassino on Ischia that is directed by Frank Ciota.
Stevenson was an imposing presence on the silver screen, and his performances commanded attention, making him a force to be reckoned with in the film industry. At the Star Wars Celebration held in April, he took to the stage and impressed the audience with his on-stage presence. He is also one of the primary antagonists in the upcoming Star Wars series, Ahsoka.
“Getting to wield the lightsaber is just the best feeling in the world,” he said at Celebration. “The first time they handed it to me for the camera test, I couldn’t help myself, I made the noise.”
Stevenson rose to fame in the United States for his portrayal of the charming yet morally questionable soldier, Titus Pullo, in the big-budget HBO series Rome that aired from 2005-07. A year after the series ended, he was cast as Marvel anti-hero Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone (2008), and he reprised the role of Volstagg in Thor: Ragnarok (2017) after first portraying the character in Thor (2011), one of Thor’s friends, known as the Warriors Three.
