BMW Films has returned with a new short film titled “The Calm” which features Pom Klementieff from “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, the all-electric performance range-topper of the BMW 7-Series flagship sedan lineup. The film is available on YouTube and has been designed to showcase some of the i7’s technology, including gesture controls and the 31.3-inch screen that folds down from the headliner.
The storyline focuses on a secret agent played by Klementieff who has been summoned to a meeting in Cannes but has to fight off an assassination attempt along the way. The story is highly engaging and presents the i7 as an important part of the film, making the car feel like another character in the story.
One of the key moments of the film is when Klementieff’s secret agent and her would-be assassin fight in the car while it is in “auto-drive” mode. The car moves along autonomously without the need for monitoring, which currently cannot be achieved in production cars. However, it is exciting to see the advancements in technology showcased in the film, and it is clear that BMW is pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
Expected to launch in the US as a 2024 model, the i70 M70 is the most powerful 7-Series model available, whether gasoline or electric. Its dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain offers 650 hp, which enables 0-60 mph in a BMW-estimated 3.5 seconds on the way to a governed 155-mph top speed. BMW M engineers also dialed up the level of sportiness in the chassis with M-specific air suspension with adjustable damping and automatic leveling, as well as a stiffer body shell and active anti-roll bars.
BMW used the opportunity to promote the i7 and build buzz around the new model. The premiere of the film was held at the Cannes Film Festival in France, where the automaker showcased several of the cars for the first viewings of “The Calm.”
BMW Films first launched in 2001, using top talent to showcase the automaker’s vehicles in short films. The initial batch of eight was called “The Hire,” and starred Clive Owen as an anonymous driver in the vein of the “Transporter” movies. An additional film called “The Escape,” also starring Owen, was released in 2016.
BMW Films has always been an exciting and innovative way to showcase the automaker’s products. The films provide an immersive experience that allows viewers to see the cars in action, and this latest addition is no exception. From the powerful engine to the advanced technology featured in the i7, the car truly shines in the film.
Overall, “The Calm” is an excellent addition to the BMW Films series, and the i70 M70 is an impressive car that deserves its moment in the spotlight. As BMW continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the automotive industry, it is exciting to see what new innovations they will bring in the future.
