Cryptoys, the digital collectible platform backed by Andreessen Horowitz, is launching a new line of Star Wars collectible digital toys on May 24. The platform has partnered with Disney to bring iconic Star Wars characters Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia to life in non-fungible token (NFT) form. The 15 digital action figures will be available to collect with powerful weapons and in different rarity levels. Each toy will cost $39.99 and will be available for purchase on the Cryptoys platform using the blockchain network Flow, which is known for issuing popular NFT compilations such as NFL All Day and NBA Top Shot.
Disney has been actively exploring the NFT industry since last year, collaborating with digital collectibles firm Veve on various Disney and Marvel-themed collections. In July 2022, the company selected blockchain firm Polygon to participate in its 2022 Accelerator Program. In January 2022, Disney was approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a patent to create a “virtual-world simulator”.
Cryptoys has also recently worked with Mattel to release a Masters of the Universe NFT collection and its platform is backed by well-known investors such as Animoca Brands, Dapper Labs, Acrew Capital, and Sound Ventures. The platform uses Flow as its protocol and the team claims that “the unboxing experience is unlike any other in the digital toy space.”
NFTs have seen a resurgence in interest over the past 90 days, with the term “NFT” scoring a perfect 100 in terms of search interest on Google Trends on April 30, 2023, and sales totaling $672,161,665 in April, according to metrics from cryptoslam.io.
Overall, the Cryptoys Star Wars collectible digital toys are expected to attract attention from both Star Wars fans and NFT enthusiasts alike, providing a unique opportunity to own and collect digital versions of their favorite characters.
