Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Wondery Kids & Family have recently announced a collaboration to create a new lineup of podcasts. This partnership aims to adapt some of literature’s most beloved children’s intellectual properties (IP) into engaging podcast content. The first podcast in this series, which is set to premiere on September 18th, is called “The Cat in the Hat Cast” and is inspired by one of Dr. Seuss’ most famous titles.
The CEO and president of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Susan Brandt, expressed her excitement about this collaboration, stating, “The works of Dr. Seuss have resonated with readers of all ages for generations, and the books promote the importance of staying curious and using your imagination.” She believes that Wondery Kids & Family has a great vision for bringing these characters and stories to life through podcasting, and she sees this collaboration as an important part of their overall entertainment strategy for the Dr. Seuss franchise.
“The Cat in the Hat Cast” is a fantastical variety show-style podcast series that will be hosted by the iconic red and white hat-wearing cat. It is designed for families with children aged 3 and up and will be available on Wondery+ through the Wondery app and Wondery Kids+ on Apple Podcasts. The show will take listeners on a journey filled with mix-ups and mayhem, as the cautious Fish joins the host, Cat, in sing-a-longs, tongue-twisters, and wordplay.
In addition to “The Cat in the Hat Cast,” several other podcast series inspired by Dr. Seuss’ world will be announced in the coming weeks. This marks Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ entry into the podcasting space, following successful expansions into stage theater, film, TV, and more through partnerships with Warner Animation Group, Netflix, and Amazon’s Prime Video.
Nicole Blake, the head of franchise development for Wondery, expressed her enthusiasm for this partnership, stating, “This deal with Dr. Seuss Enterprises is a milestone moment in establishing Wondery Kids & Family as the premiere destination for engaging family content.” She believes that both Wondery Kids & Family and Dr. Seuss share a common goal of unlocking kids’ curiosity, imagination, and wonder. She looks forward to creating a diverse range of programming that entertains and inspires the minds of tomorrow.
These new podcast shows will join Wondery’s existing lineup of podcasts for families with children aged 3-12. This includes popular shows like “Wow in the World,” a science podcast hosted by Guy Raz and Mindy Thomas; “Little Stories Everywhere,” a weekly story podcast that explores magical, adventurous, and fantastical tales; and “Whose Amazing Life,” a puzzle format podcast that challenges listeners to guess renowned figures.
Wondery has been making significant strides in the family podcasting space. In September 2021, the company launched Wondery+ Kids, a subscription podcast service that offers early access to episodes of Tinkercast and Wondery Originals. This service was launched shortly after Wondery signed an exclusive licensing and ad sales deal with family podcast company Tinkercast.
Overall, this collaboration between Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Wondery Kids & Family is set to bring beloved children’s stories to life in a new and engaging format. Through these podcasts, children and families will have the opportunity to explore the worlds of Dr. Seuss, fostering curiosity, imagination, and wonder. With more series to be announced in the future, this partnership aims to provide a wide range of entertaining and inspiring content for the minds of tomorrow.
