During the April 2023 Shanghai auto show, Porsche unveiled its updated 2024 Cayenne range. However, one notable absence from the lineup was the Turbo S E-Hybrid, which currently boasts an impressive 680 horsepower. Instead, the range-topper for the new lineup was the Turbo GT, offered exclusively in the Cayenne Coupe body style and producing a peak output of 650 horsepower.
According to a report from YouTube channel ThomasGeigerCar (via Motor1), Porsche is planning to release a successor to the Turbo S E-Hybrid, particularly targeting markets where the Turbo GT does not comply with emissions regulations, such as Europe. It is still unclear whether this newcomer will be available in the U.S., where the Turbo GT is being received with open arms.
The successor model, similar to the Turbo GT, will feature the sleek Cayenne Coupe body style and will generate over 690 horsepower from a combination of a V-8 engine and an electric motor. It is expected to achieve a top speed of more than 186 mph, making it an incredibly powerful SUV. Additionally, this new model is rumored to have a pure electric range of 62 miles, likely measured on the WLTP test cycle used overseas. This range is a significant improvement over the current Turbo S E-Hybrid’s meager 15 miles when measured by the EPA.
Interestingly, it is highly likely that a similar powertrain will also find its way into the plug-in hybrid Lamborghini Urus, which is set to be released in the first half of 2024. This is not surprising as the Cayenne and Urus share the same platform and are essentially twins under the skin.
