In a surprising development, an Ethereum developer has successfully utilized ChatGPT, an open-source language model developed by OpenAI, to launch its own ERC-20 token named AstroPepeX (APX). This achievement marks a significant milestone in the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology.
The developer, known as CroissantETH on Twitter, shared details about how they incorporated ChatGPT into a custom application using OpenAI’s API. They instructed ChatGPT to design and create its own ERC-20 token, estimating its market capitalization to be around $3.5 million.
Data from Etherscan, a popular blockchain explorer, reveals that there are currently more than 2,300 holders of APX tokens who have conducted over 17,700 transactions since the token’s creation on September 20.
To enable ChatGPT to deploy smart contracts on the Ethereum network, the developer fed the AI model with data on the top 10,000 traded tokens on Uniswap, a decentralized exchange. By utilizing Open Zeppelin standards, ChatGPT was able to generate an ERC-20 token with all the required parameters, such as token name, as determined by the language model.

Initially, ChatGPT’s suggestions for the token’s name were not satisfactory. To improve this, CroissantETH integrated data on the most actively traded tokens on Uniswap to provide the language model with a more natural and contextually appropriate output. The subsequent version of ChatGPT, GPT-4, demonstrated a better understanding of the crypto culture and displayed its own creative responses.
To ensure that the token was entirely created by ChatGPT without any human intervention, CroissantETH addressed the issue of ownership of the private keys and the contract. They implemented a solution that immediately revoked ownership of the contract and sent 100% of the APX tokens, along with 2 Ethereum (ETH), to the liquidity pool on Uniswap upon creation.
As a result, AstroPepeX was successfully launched, with 65,000,000,000 APX tokens and 2 ETH provided to Uniswap’s decentralized exchange. This move allowed the APX token to be accessed by users on various platforms, including decentralized finance platforms like Poloniex and centralized exchanges like Bitget, MEXC, and LBank.
Poloniex, one of the prominent exchanges, actively promoted the listing of AstroPepeX and enabled deposits and trading for the APX token on September 21.
AstroPepeX now has its own dedicated website featuring its Ethereum address and social media handles. Additionally, a community Telegram group with approximately 1,500 members has been established, where users can engage in discussions related to the token. The website also includes a BuyTech bot that automatically updates APX trades and provides the current market capitalization of the token. However, CroissantETH clarified in a subsequent tweet that there is no official Telegram group associated with the token.
