Jaguar recently unveiled the ZP Edition of its F-Type, a special edition that marks the end of the company’s gas-powered sports cars. This release confirms Jaguar’s plans to transition to electric vehicles, with the company set to go fully electric by 2025. The F-Type sports car will be discontinued after the 2024 model year.
In addition to the previously released F-Type 75 special edition, the new ZP Edition serves as a more exclusive farewell to gas-powered sports cars, limited to only 150 examples worldwide. While it’s unclear if any of these special editions will be available in the U.S., enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting any news.
The ZP Edition offers both coupe and convertible body styles, both featuring the 575-hp version of the supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine that powers the standard F-Type. However, the ZP Edition comes with several unique touches handled by SV Bespoke, the personalization department of JLR.
The ZP in the name refers to Project ZP, a racing campaign launched shortly after the debut of the iconic Jaguar E-Type at the 1961 Geneva auto show. Project ZP included seven specially modified E-Types for racing purposes, two of which captured victories in their first year. Graham Hill drove the Indigo Blue car to victory in the first race at Oulton Park, while Roy Salvadori secured a win at Crystal Palace in the Pearl Gray car a month later.
To commemorate Project ZP, Jaguar restored a collection of E-Types in the colors of the winning cars. Similarly, the F-Type ZP Edition features a modern interpretation of these iconic racing colors. Buyers have two options: an Oulton Blue exterior with a split Mars Red and Ebony interior or a Crystal Gray exterior with a split Navy Blue and Ebony interior. Both options sport a racing-style white roundel on the doors and a white grille surround. The “ZP” scripts can be found on the door sill treadplates, dashboard, and 20-inch forged alloy wheels, adding to the unique design elements of the ZP Edition.
As with all 2024 F-Types, the ZP Edition comes equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. It boasts impressive performance figures, including a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.
Unfortunately, pricing details for the F-Type ZP Edition have yet to be announced. However, considering its exclusive nature and the added personalization, it is expected to carry a premium price tag.
This transition to electric vehicles is part of Jaguar’s broader commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. By going electric, Jaguar aims to contribute to a greener future and play its part in tackling climate change. The company plans to introduce an all-electric flagship sedan by 2025, marking a new chapter in Jaguar’s history.
The F-Type ZP Edition serves as a tribute to Jaguar’s rich sporting heritage, while also paving the way for the brand’s electric future. It represents the culmination of decades of automotive excellence and sets the stage for the next generation of Jaguar vehicles.
As Jaguar bids farewell to its gas-powered sports cars, enthusiasts and collectors around the world eagerly anticipate the release of the limited-edition F-Type ZP Edition. With its stunning design, powerful performance, and exclusive features, this special edition embodies the spirit of Jaguar and represents the end of an era in the automotive industry.
