Ford has announced the production of a special edition of its all-electric F-150 Lightning truck called the Platinum Black edition. This limited-release model features a factory matte black exterior, reminiscent of Batman’s Tumbler Batmobile from The Dark Knight trilogy. The vehicle retains some glossy finishes on the door handles, roof, and other areas. Underneath the factory wrap, the truck is finished with Ford’s glossy agate black paint.
Only 2,000 units of the Platinum Black edition will be made, with prices starting at $97,995. This price is approximately $6,000 more than the regular Platinum tier and similar to the pre-price drop in July. The high price is reflective of the exclusive nature of this limited-release model.
In a recent announcement, Ford revealed that it is on track to triple F-150 Lightning production by the fall, aiming to build 150,000 electric trucks per year. This increased production capacity allows Ford to focus on releasing special edition models like the Platinum Black edition. Additionally, the limited availability of the entry-level “Pro” Lightning model has led some buyers to cancel their orders. By offering a unique and limited-release model, Ford can cater to a specific market and generate excitement among potential buyers.
Deliveries of the Platinum Black edition are expected to begin in early 2024. Interested customers can sign up to be notified when preorders open. Each limited-edition truck will come with an aluminum plate in the frunk (front trunk) and driver door jamb, imprinted with the production numbering to showcase its exclusivity.
The Platinum Black edition features subtle enhancements that differentiate it from the standard model. These include a smoked finish on the front light bar and a black Ford oval logo. It may not have the same rugged appeal as Ford’s F-150 Raptor, but the Platinum Black edition exudes a tough and stylish appearance.
Additionally, the truck is equipped with the 9.6kW Pro Power option, which allows users to power appliances while the vehicle is turned off. This feature can be particularly useful in various situations, making the truck even more versatile. Moreover, the Platinum Black edition includes new power usage visuals to provide users with useful information regarding their power consumption.
Like the standard Platinum trim, the Platinum Black edition comes with a 300-mile extended-range battery and the exclusive “Nirvana” contoured leather seating with a 10-way power driver seat. However, in the limited-edition model, these features are presented in a luxurious black finish. It also features a blacked-out version of the 22-inch wheels and black “Lightning” graphics on the twin glass roof. The Platinum Black edition includes power-deploying running boards with a gloss black finish, reflective black lightning badges, and a soft-shell black tonneau cover, adding to its overall stylish and distinctive appearance.
Overall, the Platinum Black edition of the Ford F-150 Lightning combines exclusivity, style, and performance in a limited-release package. With its matte black exterior and luxurious black accents, this special edition model is sure to appeal to those seeking a unique and eye-catching electric truck. As Ford expands its production capabilities for the F-150 Lightning, the release of special editions like the Platinum Black edition demonstrates the brand’s commitment to offering customers a diverse range of options to suit their preferences and desires.
