Caledonia Productions, the banner of renowned theater and film director Patrick Daly, has recently signed a first-look deal with Passenger, a production company founded by Richard Brown. The two-year deal, which falls under Fremantle’s Global Drama division, will involve collaborations between Daly and Brown on select existing film and television projects, as well as the creation of a new slate of projects to co-produce. Fremantle will handle global distribution for these projects. Both Passenger and Caledonia are based in New York and London.
Patrick Daly brings 15 years of experience in producing theater in the U.S. and U.K., with notable productions including Lucy Kirkwood’s “Chimerica,” Katori Hall’s Olivier Award-winning “The Mountaintop,” Nina Raine’s “Tribes,” and Lucy Prebble’s “The Effect.” Daly expresses his excitement for the partnership with Richard Brown and Fremantle, acknowledging their expertise, support, and global infrastructure. He looks forward to bringing bold and original work from the stage to the screen through this collaboration.
Caledonia Productions has several upcoming projects in the pipeline. One of them is the feature film “Marshall Street,” currently in development with Film4 and set to be directed by Nadia Latif. Additionally, the eight-part comedy series “SHRINK,” developed and executive produced by Daly, is currently streaming on Peacock.
Richard Brown also shares his enthusiasm for collaborating with Patrick Daly, recognizing Daly’s talent and excellent taste. He sees this deal as an opportunity for Passenger to expand its capacity to produce quality film and TV projects. Brown’s recent role as Creative Head of Global Drama at Fremantle demonstrates the company’s commitment to developing and producing high-caliber TV and film projects. One notable collaboration is their involvement in Michael Winterbottom’s new drama series “Fall of the God of Cars,” which tells the captivating story of renowned CEO Carlos Ghosn’s arrest in Japan and subsequent escape to Beirut.
In addition to his work with Passenger, Daly will continue his live theatrical stage work as a producing consultant overseeing the live division of EON Productions. Notable credits include the Broadway production of “Macbeth” starring Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga, as well as the stage musical adaptation of John Carney’s film “Sing Street.”
The partnership between Caledonia Productions and Passenger comes after Fremantle’s acquisition of Passenger in December 2022. As part of the deal, Richard Brown takes on a new creative role across Global Drama to contribute to Fremantle’s efforts in developing and producing exceptional TV and film projects.
Overall, this new collaboration between Caledonia Productions and Passenger under the umbrella of Fremantle’s Global Drama division brings together the talents of Patrick Daly and Richard Brown to create exciting and innovative film and television projects. With Fremantle’s global distribution capabilities, the partnership is well-positioned to bring these projects to audiences worldwide.
