Gal Gadot, known for her role as Wonder Woman, took on the challenge of preparing for her audition for the live-action remake of Disney’s Snow White. In this upcoming film, she will portray the Evil Queen, while Rachel Zegler takes on the role of Snow White.
Gadot revealed in a video interview with GQ that this was the first time she had to audition for a project in a while. The producers wanted to ensure that she could sing since this is a musical. Thus, she spent a month working on the song before auditioning. The audition involved filming the song, and thankfully, she got the part. She described the experience as exciting and different from anything she had done before.
The actress expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating that it was so much fun to shoot because it allowed her to do something completely different. She described the character as “delicious and delightful” and mentioned how she could go big and theatrical in her portrayal of the Evil Queen.
In an interview with People, Gadot shared an amusing anecdote about her daughter’s reaction to her playing the villain in Snow White. Initially, her daughter assumed that she would be playing the titular character. However, when she learned that Gadot would be the Evil Queen, she commented, “Oh, how appropriate.” It seems that her daughter had a perfect sense of humor about her mother’s role.
Gadot and Zegler had previously appeared together at D23, where they presented brief footage of themselves in character. Zegler highlighted the modernization of the character, emphasizing that Snow White is not just the fair and innocent girl we remember. Instead, she is focused on finding her voice and asserting her agency so that she can be a fair and just ruler.
Directed by Marc Webb, this adaptation of Snow White also features Tony winner Andrew Burnap in a lead male role. The film’s musical score is composed by the talented duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known for their work on projects such as La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and the Broadway hit Dear Evan Hansen.
Overall, Gal Gadot’s preparation and excitement for her role as the Evil Queen in Disney’s Snow White remake indicates a fresh and unique take on this classic tale. With the added talent of Rachel Zegler as Snow White and a stellar creative team behind the scenes, fans can anticipate a modern and captivating reimagining of the beloved princess story.
