LiveWire, the company that emerged from Harley-Davidson’s electric division, has recently unveiled the specifications of its highly anticipated S2 Del Mar e-motorcycle. Priced at $15,499, this electric bike is generating a lot of buzz among motorcycle enthusiasts. With its impressive acceleration, top speed, and range, the S2 Del Mar is set to make a mark in the electric motorcycle market.
According to the company’s announcement, the S2 Del Mar can go from zero to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, making it one of the fastest bikes in its class. It boasts a top speed of 103 mph and is powered by an 84 horsepower (63 kW) electric motor. These specifications position the S2 Del Mar as a high-performance electric motorcycle.
LiveWire initially released preliminary specifications earlier this year but has now exceeded some of the expectations. The bike was initially advertised to have a city range of 110 miles, but it has been upgraded to an impressive 113 miles of urban riding on a single charge. The acceleration from zero to 60 mph has also been improved from the previously stated 3.1 seconds to 3.0 seconds. Additionally, the torque rating has been increased from 184-pound-foot to 194 ft-lb.
However, it should be noted that the S2 Del Mar is slightly heavier than anticipated, weighing 436 lbs in running order, as opposed to the previously announced 431 lbs. The Level 2 charging time, which allows the battery to be charged from 20 percent to 80 percent, has also been extended to 78 minutes from the initial estimate of 75 minutes. It’s worth mentioning that the bike doesn’t support fast charging and is limited to Level 1 and Level 2 capabilities.
The S2 Del Mar is primarily designed as a commuter motorcycle, emphasizing its suitability for short daily trips rather than long-distance rides. It has a highway range of 43 miles at a speed of 70 mph and a combined (highway/city) range of 62 miles at that speed. However, if the speed is lowered to 55 mph, the range increases to 70 miles on the highway and 86 miles in combined driving.
One notable feature of the S2 Del Mar is its support for Over-the-Air (OTA) updates. This means that the motorcycle can continue to receive updates and improvements as LiveWire develops them, ensuring that riders have access to the latest features and improvements. The bike also features a four-inch round screen, USB-C connectivity for smartphones, and app-based navigation.
Despite its impressive specifications and features, the S2 Del Mar maintains its originally advertised MSRP of $15,499. While the release date has not yet been announced, LiveWire initially targeted a July launch in the US, so it can be expected that the official arrival of the S2 Del Mar is not far away.
The unveiling of the S2 Del Mar marks an important milestone for LiveWire and the electric motorcycle industry as a whole. With its exceptional acceleration, top speed, and range, this bike demonstrates the potential of electric motorcycles to compete with their gasoline-powered counterparts. As more companies like LiveWire develop and produce high-quality electric motorcycles, we can anticipate a shift towards sustainable transportation in the motorcycle industry. The S2 Del Mar represents a significant step in that direction.
