Liz Tigelaar, the showrunner of “Little Fires Everywhere” and “Tiny Beautiful Things,” is currently working on her next Hulu series. Tigelaar is developing a limited series based on Lucy Foley’s bestselling novel, “The Guest List,” which Hulu acquired the rights to after a fierce bidding war. This announcement comes at a time when the demand for intellectual property (IP) has increased due to the Hollywood strikes, which halted production and limited available content for the industry to sell.
Both the book and the TV series will be set on a remote island off a rugged coast, where guests gather for an extravagant celebrity wedding. However, as a storm approaches, the seemingly perfect event takes a dark turn when the guests’ shared histories collide, and the lights go out. In the midst of the chaos, a body is discovered, leading to the revelation of old secrets and swirling mysteries. The central question of the series becomes: who among these people deserved to die, and who had a motive to kill?
“The Guest List” was previously selected as a book club pick by Reese Witherspoon, similar to Tigelaar’s previous adaptations, “Little Fires Everywhere” and “Tiny Beautiful Things.” Tigelaar will take on the role of creator, writer, and showrunner for the eight-to-ten-episode series, should it move forward. Her production company, Best Day Ever Productions, will be involved in the project, with Stacey Silverman serving as an executive producer alongside Lucy Foley.
This announcement comes as Tigelaar continues to gain recognition for her work, with consecutive Emmy nominations for her previous Hulu projects. She is currently under an overall deal with ABC Signature and is also developing another Hulu series called “Under the Bridge,” which stars Riley Keough and Lily Gladstone and is based on a book of the same name. In addition, Tigelaar is adapting Taylor Jenkins Reid’s popular novel, “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,” for Netflix.
Meanwhile, Lucy Foley has also made waves with her upcoming novel, “The Midnight Feast,” which is set to be published globally next summer. Described as a “luxuriously dark murder mystery set during the summer solstice,” this new thriller further showcases Foley’s talent for suspenseful storytelling.
Tigelaar and Best Day Ever Productions are represented by UTA and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole, while Foley is also represented by UTA and Curtis Brown. It was UTA who facilitated the rights deal for “The Guest List.”
In conclusion, Liz Tigelaar, the accomplished showrunner known for her hit adaptations, is now working on a limited series based on Lucy Foley’s bestselling novel, “The Guest List,” for Hulu. With Tigelaar’s track record of success and the intriguing premise of the story, this upcoming series is sure to captivate audiences.
