Michael Strange, a top cryptographer for SEAL Team Six, was aboard Extortion 17 on August 6, 2011, when it suffered the greatest single loss of American personnel in the Afghan War. The shootdown resulted in the deaths of 30 Americans, including 17 U.S. Navy SEALs—15 of whom were members of SEAL Team Six’s Gold Squadron.
