Insta360 has released two new action cameras with a design that resembles GoPro’s Hero series, but with the added feature of a flip-up 2.4-inch rear touchscreen for easier vlogging. The standard Ace camera model is priced at $379.99, while the flagship Pro version is available for $449.99. The Pro version comes equipped with a Leica Summarit lens and a large 1/1.3-inch image sensor, enabling it to deliver excellent low-light performance and up to 8K recording at 24 frames per second. Both versions of the camera are currently available for purchase.
The standard Ace camera model features a smaller 1/2-inch image sensor, still allowing for recording up to 6K at 30 frames per second. Both models can capture footage at 4K and 120 frames per second, and take 48MP pictures. Additionally, the cameras are equipped with new five-nanometer AI chips, enabling features like PureVideo, which enhances low-light performance by reducing noise in real time. The Pro version is also capable of capturing additional nighttime detail and supports Active HDR for daytime recordings.
The unique flip-up screen of the Insta360 Ace cameras offers better framing and improved visibility compared to the small front screens on GoPros, making it easier for users to record vlogs and other video content. The ability to react to hand gestures for remote recording also adds a convenient feature for users who want to capture content without physically touching the camera.
The cameras offer several features that help conserve SD card space, such as the ability to pause video recording without creating a new clip and the option to cancel an active recording by holding the shutter button. Additionally, users can change the clip aspect ratio after recording, allowing for increased flexibility in how the footage is used for social media and other platforms.
One of the standout features of the Ace cameras is the AI highlights assistant, which quickly finds and clips out action shots from large video recordings, saving users time and storage space on their devices. The cameras also have an AI Warp feature that allows users to apply custom and preset prompts to generate a variety of effects. Insta360 plans to release more of these features in the coming year.
Notably, the Ace cameras offer connectivity with Apple Watches and Garmin devices, allowing users to incorporate GPS data into their recordings and overlay information like elevation and speed onto their videos. This feature is particularly useful for activities like skiing, where users can control the cameras from their wrists while navigating mountainous terrain.
The cameras are designed to be waterproof, allowing for submersion up to 33 feet underwater, and up to 196 feet with a Dive Case accessory. The batteries are internally tested to last 100 minutes while recording in 4K30 with Active HDR, and can be fast-charged to 80 percent in just 22 minutes using a power delivery charger.
The Insta360 Ace and Ace Pro cameras are available for purchase worldwide through Insta360.com and Amazon, catering to a global audience of action camera enthusiasts looking to capture high-quality footage with advanced features and durability. With their robust design, powerful imaging capabilities, and innovative features, these cameras offer a compelling option for content creators and adventure seekers alike.
