Jorge Masvidal, the 38-year-old MMA superstar, recently hinted at a possible return to the UFC and expressed his desire to face Conor McGregor outside the Octagon. Masvidal appeared on the “TMZ Sports” TV show and discussed his aspirations to reclaim the BMF (Baddest Mother F*****r) title, which he won by defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 244.
“I think I’m going to have to come back and snatch that belt up real quick. Something like that. But not at 155 lbs., they gotta come up to 170 lbs.,” Masvidal said during the interview. He emphasized that he wants to fight in the UFC again, although he didn’t specify a timeframe for his return.
Masvidal’s retirement after his April fight with Gilbert Burns didn’t last long, as he appeared at an event in Salt Lake City last weekend and presented the BMF belt to Justin Gaethje, who had just defeated Dustin Poirier. When asked about his potential opponent for his return, Masvidal mentioned Conor McGregor. However, it was clear that Masvidal prefers a street fight with McGregor rather than a sanctioned bout.
“Really I would like to fight Conor because he’s such a bitch. I can’t stand that dude. But him on the street for free, ’cause he’ll never fight me in the ring,” Masvidal expressed his disdain for McGregor during the interview. He criticized McGregor for not mentioning him in any comments and called him out for calling out other fighters instead.
Masvidal believes that McGregor avoids fighting him in the Octagon because he knows that Masvidal’s style of fighting, which involves standing up and striking, would give him an advantage against McGregor. Masvidal explained, “He knows that the way that I’d beat him is the way that he wins fights. Stand up, f***ing punching his teeth in and kicking his ribs in, so I know it’s just not good for his brand.”
While not actively fighting in the UFC, Masvidal has kept himself busy by launching his own fight promotion called Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA. The promotion has already booked big fights with top combat sports stars, including a rematch between former UFC heavyweight champions Junior dos Santos and Fabricio Werdum. The fight is set to take place on September 8 at FLA Arena in Jacksonville, FL.
In addition to his promotion, Masvidal also discussed his plans for the future, including his desire to sign fighters like Derrick Lewis and his renewed beef with Ben Askren. Masvidal’s interview with TMZ Sports provides fans with a deeper insight into his aspirations and upcoming plans.
While a potential fight between Masvidal and McGregor remains uncertain, the possibility of their clash outside the Octagon adds an intriguing element to their rivalry. As fans eagerly await Masvidal’s return to the cage, his interview offers a glimpse into his mindset and determination to prove himself as the true BMF.
