In a shocking incident at the Clark County District Court, Judge Mary Kay Holthus was attacked by convicted criminal Deobra Delone Redden during a hearing on Wednesday morning. Video footage captured the moment Redden leaped over the judge’s bench and began beating her, while repeatedly using explicit language.
Both Judge Holthus and the marshal suffered injuries during the attack. The judge had been sentencing Redden for aggravated battery with substantial bodily harm when he launched his assault. Redden has a history of criminal charges in Nevada and Texas, including battery, robbery, assault, and coercion.
Despite a previous judge’s request for a competency determination, Redden was found competent in October. The Las Vegas District Court has expressed their commitment to a safe and secure courthouse and is reviewing all protocols to protect the judiciary, the public, and employees.
