In a town like Los Angeles, where plastic surgery is as common as drinking kombucha, choosing the right aftercare for your recovery can be just as important as finding a skilled surgeon. According to Beverly Hills-based plastic surgeon Lisa Cassileth, many people are willing to spend upwards of $100,000 on cosmetic surgeries, but skimp on the post-op care, which can have a negative impact on the recovery process and the final results.
While Serenity Aftercare in Santa Monica has long been the go-to retreat for post-op recovery, it closed down during the pandemic. However, a new wave of post-op hideaways has emerged and they are taking things to the next level by partnering with luxury hotels such as the Four Seasons, SLS Beverly Hills, and The Beverly Hilton. These facilities offer patients a chance to recover in luxurious surroundings with amenities such as private rooms, nursing care, meals, and transportation all included in the nightly fee.
One of the newest post-op hideaways is Aura AfterCare, opened in 2021 by facial plastic surgeon Ben Talei. It employs many of the staff from Serenity and offers four 3,500-square-foot condos with private balconies in a luxurious residential building in the Wilshire Corridor. The center provides round-the-clock nursing care, along with a customized menu of nutritionally optimized meals, including options for Kosher, vegan, and vegetarian diets. The center also offers à la carte healing treatments such as an LED bed to reduce inflammation, IV drip therapy for hydration and vitamin boost, and a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to increase blood supply to the tissues and aid recovery.
In addition to these advanced treatments, Aura AfterCare also offers medicinal leech therapy, which was approved by the FDA in 2004. This ancient therapy helps thin the blood and reduce swelling, making it beneficial for patients who have had procedures like revision face-lifts, nose jobs, or tummy tucks. Irina Brodsky has been practicing this hirudotherapy for over 10 years and explains that leeches produce saliva containing healing enzymes, amino acids, and proteins that act as a natural blood thinner. The sessions are tolerable and can have additional benefits for hormonal imbalances, joint pain, and depression.
Another popular aftercare spot is Calicia Care, founded by sisters Erika and Lexi Maldonado, which offers recovery time in plush guest rooms at The Beverly Hilton. They provide one-on-one nursing care and offer treatments like in-room lymphatic drainage and reiki sessions. They also provide additional services such as dog walking, manicures/pedicures, and makeup/hairstyling to help patients go home looking and feeling their best.
Prestige Surgical Aftercare is another sought-after option, housed at the SLS Hotel Beverly Hills. Their suites offer luxurious amenities, including D. Porthault linens and automated voice control for lights, beds, and TVs. Aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon Payman Danielpour recommends Immortelle Healthcare Group for aftercare, which has 12 rooms at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills. Immortelle prides itself on taking a holistic approach to aftercare by considering not only the physical recovery but also the psychological support needed for improved patient outcomes. They offer treatments such as photobiomodulation light therapy to reduce inflammation and anxiety.
Once patients are back on their feet, Pause Studio offers a range of treatments at their Los Angeles locations for continued healing. These include LED light therapy beds and compression therapy, both of which aid in repairing damaged tissues and reducing inflammation.
As cosmetic surgeries continue to gain popularity in Los Angeles, the demand for quality post-op care is also increasing. These post-op hideaways, with their luxurious accommodations and advanced treatments, offer patients a chance to recover in comfort and receive the support they need to achieve the best possible results.
