The Hollywood Reporter has appointed Maer Roshan as co-editor-in-chief, alongside Nekesa Mumbi Moody. This decision comes as the entertainment brand continues to grow and expand its business. Roshan, who previously served as editor-in-chief of Los Angeles Magazine, will begin his new role on September 25th.
With a wealth of experience and a track record of producing exceptional content, Roshan has worked as a top editor for several premium brands including New York Magazine, Interview, Talk, 429, and others. He has also successfully launched and edited a series of print and online publications such as Radar, TheFix.com, and Punch!
In 2012, Roshan moved to Los Angeles to oversee Awesome Projects, an editorial and creative consultancy catering to clients ranging from Telepictures to Snapchat. He also served as editor of FourTwoNine, a California-based men’s magazine and website, which won the 2018 Southern California Journalism Award for its political and business coverage.
Notably, Roshan previously held the position of deputy editor at New York Magazine for nearly seven years, where he oversaw the Intelligencer section. He was also the founder and CEO of Radar, a pop-culture magazine that was recognized as Launch of the Year by The New York Times. During his time as editorial director of Talk, Roshan saw double-digit circulation gains in the first year of his tenure.
Chairman, founder, and CEO of Penske Media, Jay Penske, expressed his confidence in the new co-editor-in-chiefs, stating, “Nekesa’s journalistic instincts coupled with Maer’s undeniable talent for storytelling and innovation make them a powerful duo. I look forward to watching them continue to build and evolve The Hollywood Reporter for the future.”
Moody, the editorial director, praised Roshan’s alignment with her vision for THR, stating, “We both value expert coverage and analysis of the entertainment business, in-depth profiles and investigative features, captivating style and fashion, and above all else, journalistic excellence. He knows what draws in the reader and keeps them coming back. I’m so excited to have him as my co-editor.”
Roshan expressed his excitement about joining The Hollywood Reporter and his commitment to bringing his passion for storytelling and entrepreneurial mindset to the iconic brand. With Moody’s leadership, THR has already made significant strides in its coverage of the entertainment industry, including in-depth reporting, analysis, reviews, world-class photography, video content, and feature exclusives. The publication was recognized as the best entertainment publication at the National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards in 2022 and won the best website award at the SoCal Journalism Awards in June.
In addition to its print and online presence, The Hollywood Reporter also organizes prestigious live events, spearheads philanthropic and diversity initiatives, and produces successful video series, including the Emmy-nominated Close Up with The Hollywood Reporter.
The appointment of Maer Roshan as co-editor-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter signals the brand’s commitment to continued growth and innovation in the ever-evolving entertainment industry. With Roshan and Moody at the helm, the publication is poised to deliver exceptional content, captivating storytelling, and insightful journalism to its readers.
